  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all

Yesterday as I was exiting my Genny, I noticed my driver's seat had a bubble in the leather. Yes that sounds strange but it is a bubble! I am so pissed. I am tired of having trouble here and there with this car that i feel I am paying too much for to be like this. I religiously clean my seats with Luxor cleaner and Formula 2001 3 times a week. I baby the interior so I have NO idea why the seat would do that. Has anyone ever experienced this and if so what was the fix? Warranty item? Time to trade it in? Please share!

When i worked at Acura i had a guy come in raising hell over something that looked almost the same as your seat. We swapped his seat out and tried to figure out what was causing this problem. 6 month later he was back with the same issue.. WTF!! Just to "try" to make him happy we swapped the seat out again.
While the car was there he went ahead and got a oil change and tire rotation. When he got to the cashier window he pulls out this wallet that was about half as thick as a phone book!!
My co worker goes over and asks him if he carries that wallet all the time and he says yes.. He told him that his wallet was stretching out the leather and that if it happened again it wouldn't be covered under warranty.

Long story short.. Do you have a thick wallet?

LOL!! That is a funny story.
Easy answer, wallet is flat because I have no $$ LOL!
No it is normal size wallet. But yes, It is on that side where it is bubbling.
Next question, is this a WARRANTY item you think?

Not sure if it will be covered under warranty. IMO, it should be covered, But it cant hurt anything to ask.. GL.

No offense to the OP just observation but from your photo the leather does seem a bit dirty. My seat had started to do something similar to yours. I have been trying to heal the leather back to new using mguirs leather care but the leather soon dries out after a week. I search the net and found a system called leatherique and have been using it for the past two weeks. This new leather care seems to be in a different class from the off the shelf solutions! Also to fix the bubbling in the short term you need to steam treat that section of your seat. You will be amazed at the results!

With a wet sponge rub the seat leather gently in the stretched area until it is damp. Then use a hair dryer to dry the seat thoroughly, this should shrink the leather back to shape. Softer leathers will stretch over time in any vehicle. The leather on my Denali's driver seat is stretched as is the leather in my Genesis. The leather in an Acura that I owned did not stretch but it was thicker and hard and developed deep creases.

None taken :) That is a night pic with a camera phone and I just got out of the car so that could be dye from clothes which COULD explain like you mentioned making it dry out. Leatherique? Hmm...Fortunately, I just purchased a steamer so I may give it a shot. I am NERVOUS but I will try. Thank you!

My assumption is a STEAMER would do the same thing if not a little better?
Yes, HONDA did a piss poor job on their interiors speaking from my wife's 2008 Accord EXL. Hard leather that creased to every known crease to be creased.

I will try your method. Thank you and to BStarr119.

Just to add don't over heat your leather with the steamer just go at a steady pass with it and your will results will be great :)

You clean your seat 3x/week? A bit obsessive, no? And you're thinking of trading in your car 'cause a seat has a ripple? I solve that problem by sitting on the seat.

That color of a seat I have never had before and there is lots of POLLEN here in Wilmington. That is why i clean/protect it so often. I did not want to allow pollen to screw it up. If I dont try to fix it or get it fix, I bet the seat would eventually rip dont you think?

Seat not the ONLY reason. Just little stuff happening here and there can be frustrating. That is all.

Looks like time to dig out that Shark steamer. "As seen on TV". Serious, thanks for the tip.

Guess it worked ^^ looking for an update :)
