  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, this is just going to be a copy&paste, i didn't seem to get much help in the coupe section, for whatever reason... but this side of the forums seem more active, so here goes!!

Hello!! Dacember is the VERY PROUD owner of a Genesis coupe! however, at the moment this is just her boyfriend!! im only the proud owner of a work van

You will all meet her soon, i told her about this forum a few days ago, and she was very excited.. i have forums i am a part of, so she thought it will be cool to have one too

She was not quick to sign-up, but after her little accident the other day, I decided to speed up the process, and signed up here for her... So he is the issue, a couple of days ago she parked too far up a curve, and the black plastic piece under the car got caught on the curve (it was one of the concrete curves you will see at the mall, they are installed intop of the pavement... well thats besides the point) so i had to drive to the mall and get her out of there... i suggested she leave her car over night, and i would come back with the proper tools the next day, when the light is out... she was not having that..

so i just backed the car out, and it ripped that plastic piece half off, we drove it home half hanging there...

so, before i turn this post into a short novel, here's the point of this thread.

The plastic piece just seems to be a mud flap to the radiator, the "nut" is hard mounted into the frame of the radiator, and that broke in 'accident' not to mention, its slightly bent, so even if i could jimmy rig a bolt system back together, it does not fit properly, there for its hanging too low...

i can get it to land in the right spot, where it sitting high enough (where its is supposed to sit) but then the bolts dont match the the wholes of the plastic piece(because like i said, the frame that it mounts to is bent).... So, my thoughts are to just use wire ties to securely mount it up where it belongs...

I am pretty handy with most things, but cars are just not my thing, i have to admit... with that said...

Question 1: is this a stupid idea?
Question 2: will the wire ties melt, when the radiator gets hot??
Question 3: will driving the car without this mud flap do damage?? if it were just the radiator exposed, i would not think much of it, but i also noticed some kind of spongy type thing.. obviously a filter of some sort, im guessing with the mud guard off, that will collect more then a healthy dose of dirt/dust.

thanks.. any thoughts, or advice will be appreciated... We don't really wanna take it to the dealership for such a petty 'accident'

their invoice would look something like this

"black plastic mud guard installation: $1,000.00" lol

sorry if the post was rather long :X

Since nobody else is helping you let me give you some advice. However, I'm no pro - so these are just opinions...

1. It's not a stupid idea if it works
2. I don't think so - but my advice is to get it wired up and pay close attention to it. Check to see how things are holding up before becoming overly confident in it.
3. Yes, driving the car without that flap can do damage...

Haven't answered because I have no clue, sorry..

Dacember -

I would suggest posting this in another forum. This is the sedan forum, and if others are like me, they have NO clue about the coupe.

I understand what happened to you, and have dealt with exactly the same issue with a completely different car years ago. There are so many variables that I hesitate to offer advice.

Good luck with the fix.

@ICanHasGenesis: i did post in the genesis coupe forum first, and got no replies... the sedan forums seemed a bit more active, and figured that "mud flap" type guard would be on the sedan as well, so i gave a shot asking here..

@Hyundai Genis: thanks for answering the best you could, I was hoping for a more definitive answer, but i still appreciate your response none the less, i guess i will just use wire tires for now, and monitor it as suggested...

as long as it stays in place, i cant see it doing any harm.. i hope.

Sorry I couldn't be of better assistance. I think you'll be fine as long as those wires don't melt. Just check consistently for awhile and make sure everything is secured. I'm pretty confident you'd hear it fall off while driving and/or feel yourself run it over so you probably don't need to check constantly...
