  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My very first car was a black 1980 Datsun 200SX with the rear louvers, and I washed it once or twice a week by hand. It always looked fantastic... for two days. I loved that car.

Haven't owned a black car since. The trees around here drop way too much cr@p, I don't have the time for hand washing, and wouldn't trust the local Eager-Beaver/Simoniz place to keep off the swirl marks.

That actually looks kinda cool even now in a retro-sorta way!

Here's the thing I realized with my current car regarding time and hand-washing. For me, it's a 20 minute drive one-way to the car-wash I prefer. There are closer car-wash places to me, but none closer than 10 minutes. So for me it's a minimum 20 minute for drive, usually 40 minutes. After that there's anywhere from a 25-50 minute wait for the wash itself. So at a bare minimum for me to get my car washed somewhere I'm out 45 minutes, realistically an hour. That's more time than it takes me to wash it by hand in my driveway (I'm not talking wax or anything, just wash, dry, and wheels/tires, vacuum using a portable car vacuum I got from Wal-Mart).

That's the reason I've adopted a new approach with my white 2015 Genesis: wash often, by hand. This car looks horrible when dirty (especially around the trunk/rear-bumper "shelf", where all the rainwater tends to pool with the road dirt and then dry) and needs to be washed often; I'd go bankrupt if I had to wash it as often as I needed/wanted to.

Yeah, that wing looks pretty, I was even thinking about to get it, but since I de-badged my car, I like to keep it "clean" .....well, I might get a new set of wheels instead ;)

@Aquineas

Those wheels will fit new Genny no problem .........in case I get one ;)
