2010-2011 Breaks Recall

My brothers wife's clients husband recently passed away driving a 2010 or 2011 Genesis because he couldn't stop the car due to a break recall! Hyundai sent the recall paperwork AFTER he died and she is now suing them! So I'm asking, is there a recall on breaks for the first generation models? I'm out of country and haven't been driving my car. Thought I'd ask one of you.

Old school recall to replace the brake fluid with a higher temp fluid so it doesn't boil in the lines. Just call any dealer and read them the VIN to get what open recalls are on yours

I'm afraid that you heard some bogus information on the brake recall. There were no deaths caused by the bad brake fluid, and only one accident.

" a problem that has led to 23 complains, a documented crash for one owner and another owner losing control of their vehicle."

SUMMARY:
Hyundai is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 Genesis vehicles manufactured April 30, 2008, through March 28, 2012. The vehicles may contain brake fluid which does not protect against corrosion of the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU).
CONSEQUENCE:
If the module corrodes, reduced brake effectiveness may result, increasing the risk of a crash.
REMEDY:
Hyundai will notify owners and instruct them to bring their vehicle to a dealer for service. Hyundai will inspect the HECU module for proper operation, and will replace the modules as necessary. Hyundai will replace the factory brake fluid in those vehicles that have not previously had the factory brake fluid replaced. These repairs will be done free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by the end of December 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 or by email at consumeraffairs@hmausa.com. Hyundai's recall number is 114.

1. I don't know anything about the validity of OP claim, but I don't know why you think that Hyundai or the NHTSA would know about every injury or death. They would only know if someone filed a "documented" complaint.
2. Hyundai cannot inspect the inside of the HECU to see if there is any corrosion that may get worse and lead to brake failure at a later date. So that part of the inspection is almost worthless unless the HECU has already failed and is already leaking brake fluid.
3. As part of the recall there was a change from DOT-3 to DOT-4 brake fluid, however, the newer HECU's have different valves that are more corrosion resistant, and it is unclear if simply changing the DOT-4 (with some anti-corrosion properties) will be able to prevent eventual corrosion in all HECU's.

I'd be cautious of any story starting with "My brothers wife's clients husband". Unless the brothers wife is a lawyer dealing with her clients husbands death there is far too much separation going on to result in an accurate story.
