Driving rainstorm- AEB and SCC freak out...

I had the "pleasure" today of driving from Katy, Texas to Montgomery County, TX during a driving rainstorm the entire way (enough water that it would make an everyday shower look like a light splash). During that time, the AEB system kept alerting followed by the cruise control (leaving both inoperable for a time). They would stay disabled for a few minutes (maybe about 5) and then reset themselved.

Has anyone seen this before? I can't help but be concerned about how protected these things are against water after the taillight recall.

While I'm at it, I'll chime in on the ProContact TX tires. They are at least as good as the Hankooks in the rain and at hydroplane resistance.

I believe all the sensors affected are behind the plastic panel on the front grille. I know that I have seen a few complaints (I forget which threads) about AEB and SCC "glitching" when the panel was dirty. I am not saying your panel was dirty, but with this semi-tropical rain crap that we are going through, I can see the rain interfering with the cameras that drive those systems. Just a conjecture, but if it happened coincident with the heaviest of the rain or with the normal insane Houston drivers passing you and blessing you with sheets of water splash, that might explain it.

Good to hear the tires are holding up well in the "cow pissing on a flat rock" rain we are having.

Hm, drove in the same rain from Tomball to Pearland, with SCC on all the way. Neither AEB nor SCC acted up at all.
But this was the first time in 9 months I kept SCC on max distance

I have noticed a similar occurrence where the AEB "freaks" during winter weather -- but only during the snow storm. It appeared to occur to me regularly when driving on the highways in New Hampshire this winter (its a 2015 so my first winter with the car). Each time, I noticed that the entire front of the car would be caked in snow and ice. If you let the car melt or wiped it off, the AEB would reset fine.

It is sort of annoying when you are driving in such conditions and it lights up the instrument panel and makes the alarm noise all of a sudden when on the highway. I have had the alarms occur regardless of the use of cruise control.

I haven't yet seen rain affect SCC or AEB. I have frequently had water on the car cause false alarms with the blind spot monitor (usually rain or dew running off of the back of the car), and have occasionally seen water on the road affect the lane departure warning.

The very good results in AEB and SCC tests combined with excellent small overlap crash test performance were one of the reasons why I decided to get the 2015 Genesis.

I drove in torrential rain a couple of days ago with SCC on and it worked without a glitch. And AEB did not act up.

But I would not be surprised to have an occasional error with SCC/AEB. I have experienced SCC errors in BMWs, Mercedes and Infinitis when the weather is rough or the sun shines right at you so I think it is the limitation of the technology irrespective of the manufacturer.

The 2015 Genesis is based on the same technology (Mobileye) as used by several other manufacturers, including BMW and Volvo so I would venture to say that it compares favorably with the best AEB/SCC systems currently installed in production vehicles. Naturally, software tweaks may give one manufacturer the upper hand over another but so far I am impressed with the SCC performance in the Genesis - luckily, I have not yet experienced the ability of AEB...

I too have had AEB go "out" on me during a rain storm. The Center screen popped up with AEB error or similar and stated it was non functional. I tried the SCC assuming it wouldn't work, which it did not as the 2 systems are tied together. After sitting at work, everything was fine on the drive home.

More often, maybe 3 or 4 times, in rain my blind spot detector, will act up in the rain. Typically its only the passenger side but at least once neither side would function.

This was with my 2015 3.8 Utimate, Cruise was NOT being used at the time.

I've had that in snow and heavy rain, my theory is if the the radar and/or camera can't see at a minimum distance it's gives the alert

This is SOP per the manual. I do believe any make/model car with these features will react in the same manner.

I've had it issues in snow and light misting rain - never in heavy rain (just drove through wicked heavy rain yesterday for a good 45 minutes with no warnings I'm not sure which system is warning as all I get is a warning chime and a graphic ot the car in thc center display of a triangle with an exclamation point showing at the front of the car.

Driving in very heavy rain and traffic near Baton Rouge couple days ago and had "Check AEB" alarm come on several times.
