  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone here compared the 15 Genesis 5.0 to a Chevy SS?

I drove both within the past two weeks. Just drove the Genesis both V6 and V8 yesterday and was seriously impressed by it so much that it made it to the top of my list with the SS so far. If you guys compared, what were the reasons you went with the Genesis? The SS to me maybe more fun of a car, has the Corvette LS3, more mods (aftermarket) available. It has probably the best interior of any GM car inside of it other than Caddy.

I also thought when I drove the V8, it felt more solid and sure footed than the V6. Obviously it had more power than the V6 and you felt it. It wanted to get going much faster. Now the one Genesis I drove, didn't have the trunk auto close. So I assume it didn't have the Ultimate package. The v6's had the Signature and Tech, and they were asking $39k-$40k on those discounted. The V8 had no price yet.

What should someone pay for a V8, with Ultimate (all packages) basically and a V6 with ultimate (all packages) but no awd?

Thanks guys.

The SS is such a nice car. The sticker on my 2015 5.0 Ultimate was $56,050 and ended up paying $50,000. Prior to purchasing my car, I drove both 3.8 Ultimate and 5.0 Ultimate. For me it was a clear choice to purchase the 5.0 Ultimate with the performance and handling being superior to the 3.8 Ultimate. Not sure if you did this on your test drive, but make sure to engage sport mode. The 5.0 is a blast to drive with that suspension mode engaged. Good luck with the purchase.

Hopefully somebody chimes in who can give you a good comparison on both cars. As you know, the SS is much easier to modify so if you want a really fast fullsize sedan - there it is. However, the SS is not nearly as luxurious as the Genesis - and the V8 is very potent as it is. There ARE vendors working on mods for the Genesis but there will never be as many as there are for the SS and LS3.

I'd take the Genesis hands down, but that's because I value the luxury appointments. Also, I really dislike the interior design behind the SS (especially that instrument cluster). The SS is fast and you can mod the hell out of it, which is a big plus to those that value that.

The ride feel/comfort is pretty different between the 2 vehicles.

Did not know there was a setting you could adjust! The sales guy didn't mention that. Go figure! It handled well though for whatever setting it was in!

Thanks for the info.

The Chevy SS is a GM Holden made in Australia. And will not be produced after 2017. GM is shutting down all production in Australia in 2017. FYI When 2017 comes Australia will not have any cars of any brand produced in Australia.

^^ I know, so it makes it a rare car.

That sounds awesome... until you need to buy something for a it a few years down the road. I had that issue with my 2006 MazdaSpeed 6.

Chevy ss is a wanna b G8 and when u need a part good luck getting it.

Get the SS for performance and make sure it has magnetic ride control. Get the Ultimate Genesis for comfort, convenience, safety, and the head up display.

The Genesis will continue to improve each model year, while RWD 6.2 L V8 sedans will become extinct. If you want a new sedan like the SS, this is probably your last chance. If you don't mind the sound of turbocharged V6s and I4s, there is no hurry.

I also own a G8 GT with about 5000 miles. I drive the G8 GT for fun, and the Genesis for long trips and/or congested traffic.

You're welcome.

If you decide on the SS, I have a rebate good on any General Motors vehicle that you might be able to use. Send an email to me if you want it.

I'll let you know. How long is it good for? Thank you.

I've spent a decent amount of time in both. The SS is awesome but lacks refinement even compared to my '12 R-Spec...just not my tastes. But I don't think the SS is about refinement either. You just have to decide what you're looking for out of your Q-ship.

^^ Yeah, that is the problem. Trying to decide between them. :(

How are you going to be using your vehicle? Is it going to be DD?

At the beginning, it will be a mix. I have an old 2000 Camry that I use for bad weather days (because we get a lot of hail here). Eventually this new one will become a replacement for that when it gets sold, but not for a while.

I like something comfortable, sporty, and with some balls. The SS has more power, and handles better with it's magnetic ride. But the Genesis was just a nicer vehicle overall, and was more comfortable. Also my back doesn't have an issue with either car or seats, but the Genesis felt a little better.

Do you want a manual? If the answer is yes, then the SS is the only solution.

Also, have you considered, or are you interested in CPO vehicles? If it's something you were interested in, I would be looking at '12+ E550s or '12+ Jaguar XFs Supercharged. You can probably get into a larger vehicle like an Audi A8 or a Jaguar XJ for a similar price as well.

Where I live, we have no luxury dealers other than Caddy and Lincoln. The closest is 200 miles. If we did, I would be in a Lexus or Infiniti probably. Manual is no more for me. My days of that are over once I started having issues with my left leg and back. :(
