  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

After taking out all groceries,I was checking the front area of my car then suddenly, it shook , old couple who was parking at my back jus hit the bumper that left an indentation from the screw of their license plate . The owner was sorry, saying he forgot to put it on the Park position that it rolled, I would be fine since it is the just the bumper. I know scratch will also show up later. Found out also that they are my neighbor. Took a picture of his plate number and right now I am planning to file a police report because the indentation is now giving me a headache. Anyone who has similar experience?
Here is the pix of the indentation.

If they were honest, and not weasels who feel like they are "entitled" to not fix your damage, they should have already given you their insurance card and suggested you get three estimates.. Since they are neighbors, you could go to good place, yet does not gouge on pricing. Because the couple may want to pay themselves instead of making a claim...

There are paintless dent removal folks who now work on flexible plastic number covers like this that are reported low cost. They come to ones location and fix it. Your damage could qualify for that. We had a work mini van that someone is similar thing and left before it was spotted. If I remember correct, $50 trip charge, and $285 to fix. Looks as good as new. Forget which franchise did the work.

Or..... They are weasels. What do you think?

They are weasels!

Seen those type before. The "confused" "it is no problem, I am entitled" attitude. And maybe deep down afraid they might lose their drivers license. Nail them to the wall, before they cause more damage to other property, they run fand are not caught.

Up to you... I bet this is not their first rodeo being weasels... Show no mercy.

The paint is damaged can't be fixed by "Dent Doctor" and look good.
My guess based on other reports is at least $400 min.

Wow 400 min! Maybe I have to call my insurance on how to deal with the guy!

Odd that you did not exchange driver's license, registration, and insurance info right away. These are the basic rules to follow when you have an accident. When he left the scene you also could have called the police.

By the way, the only two accidents I've had in the past 30 years have resulted in the same kind of damage to my rear bumpers. One guy hit me from behind while I was stopped at a red light. The second guy hit me when I stopped for a stop sign. In both cases, the only damage was the license plate bolt impression on my plastic rear bumper covers. In both cases I collected from the insurance company but never had the minor damage repaired.

Sadly, because it was my very first time to experience it, plus the fact that they have the "disabled ID' infront of the windshield and when got out he looks so sick! The only thing I was thinking was "This is the reason why you are not supposed to be driving anymore"? But still, I am not getting over it.:(

Get an estimate. Show it to your neighbors. Politely ask them how they'd like to work it out. Then you'll see if they are weasels.

Had a similar incident where an older driver backed into me while leaving his parking spot. He politely told me he was headed to an eye exam! Luckily I had no damage.

I agree with amartz, give them a chance to do the right thing. If they don't, call your insurance company ASAP.

You apparently don't know that New York is a no-fault state. Report the accident immediately to your insurance company and let them sort it out. You also need to file an accident report. Time is slipping away on you. Assuming that the other driver has insurance, they will be covered and won't have to pay the cost of your repairs out of their pocket. This is what insurance is all about!!!!

Since they are neighbors, they already are weasels. Otherwise they would already as respected elders of the community, reaching out to him to do the right thing. The wife is not a potted plant, if the older gent is too ill to stop in or reach out to him in some way, she should... I do think making it easy for them by getting the estimates and handing a solution on a silver platter is very nice (and good idea).

If the gent admit liability to their insurance, no deductible on your end.. PC has a point. Your insurance can work this on your behalf.

Some older couple accidentally backed into someone and now they are "weasel" criminals? I did not read in the OP where they denied it or ran away. We know zero about them or their driving record. Not a fan of people who cannot drive well, but the road is full of them and there is a chance it was actually an accident. If they are neighbors of the OP, even more reason to not go into Bruce Willis mode automatically on them.

I don't know your particular situation, so don't take this peronally. I always park in the North 40 when at any store, ease into the marked off areas, etc. to keep other drivers and their cars away from mine. I've noticed when I come out that other people with "nice" cars will then park around me...guess it's the fan club of no door/bumper dings. The kids don't get it but the wife does...she pays the bills!

Agree with other posters...you paid good money for a very nice car. Contact your insurance company and let them work it out. Eventually, you'll get your deductabile back and you won't have to notice the screw mark on your car everytime you walk by it...which I bet you do....and do a slow burn.

Read his posts... They were not forthright. Had he not figured it out, they would not come to him, and had not... They hoped they were entitled to keep from bringing it up, and get away with it. Just the way it is... Now we will see how insurance companies and this couple follow through. Especially since they were approached and did not deny what happened when challenged.

I read them. I don't see where they are weasels based on the posts from OP. Sorry. Bad driver, yes. Weasel, I don't know. They didn't drive off, they apologized. They apparently got out of their car and we do not know what happened from there except the OP did not exchange info and appears to later have gotten more concerned about about the dent, upon further inspection and the estimates given here.

Best advice is to always call the cops and get an accident report, regardless of how minimal the damage is. Whether or not you decide to go through insurance can be decided later - but without the accident report, it's your word against theirs!
