Driving home today I kept getting the battery discharge warning please use the system with engine running.this would randomly pop up on the center console lcd screen while I was driving. Anyone else had this happen?
Hopefully it is just your standard everyday computer glitch. Unfortunately these things are becoming more common place with computers running almost everything in our cars now. Just last week my passenger side lane change alert was constantly on even though no car was there or even close by. Rather annoying as each time I changed lanes and used the flasher it would beep at me. Stayed like that until the car was shut down and restarted.
Just for your infoMy brand new Genesis wouldn't start a week after I bought it. Dead battery. Just saying.![]()

Replacement cost on that battery retails for $282 Not Cheap...internet price $217 Hyundai part # 371103M00
Doesn't a "normal" good battery cost about $150? Almost $300 seems ridiculous...

This is the same battery that I had in my 2008 BMW M5. It was a piece of crap then and still is. BMW wanted $500 for a replacement.
This is the same battery that I had in my 2008 BMW M5. It was a piece of crap then and still is. BMW wanted $500 for a replacement. Lots of M5 owners had "Excessive Battery Discharge" warnings with this battery. BMW never acknowledged the problem.
I went to a local battery supply store and bought a better, smaller battery for $110, and it solved all the problems. It even had a higher "cranking" power than the original.
I don't know about the Genesis, but we had to put a trickle charger on the M5 while we swapped batteries. Otherwise the onboard systems would lose ALL settings and you'd have to go back to the dealer for reprogramming.
BMW tried to stop people from installing any other battery by claiming that the car required a "battery reset" on their system. If not, the battery would not charge properly, and wouldn't last 5-7 years. That may be, but I could buy 4 batteries for the price that they were charging, so who cares. That aftermarket battery has been on the car for 4 years and is still going strong!
The Hyundai battery has 950CCA and 105 AH ... size is approx. 15x7x7. I don't think you will find a smaller battery with that power punch
Those are impressive stats, as you expect from an impressive sized battery.
But why are they failing?
One theory I've heard is that maybe the batteries are being damaged when going flat after cars are sitting unsold for extended periods.
