  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday, as I was coming out of a parking lot the attendant gave me several dollars change. So I wouldn't hold up the people in line behind me I put the dollar bills on top of the ash tray and drove off. When I came to a stop sign the dollar bills slid under the dash from on top of the ash tray cover never to be seen again. I tried sliding a thin piece of plastic between the dash and the ash tray cover to to retrieve the bills to no avail. When I open the ash tray cover I can feel it hitting the bills.

I am pretty sure there is no way of retrieving the bills other than removing either the dash or the center console.

Just giving a heads up to everyone to take that two seconds not place any thin items on top of the ash tray door.

I now have figured out what that little cubby hole immediately above the ash tray is for.

Try to suck it out with a vacuum fitted with a flat narrow nozzle. The bills may not come all the way out but maybe close enough for your to fish them out with a piece of wire.

I think there is some kind of a slight drop off behind the ash tray door into which they have now been pushed because I no longer feel the when I open the ash tray door. I'm pretty sure they are gone forever. My main concern is that they may cause a malfunction of something by coming into contact with something in the dash, like the CD player.

I haven't looked, but can you remove the ash tray itself, thereby gaining at least partial access to the concealed area?
