If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rattle in overhead controls. How do I pull out the controls?

I have a nonstop rattle that appears to be coming from the overhead controls in the headliner. It sounds like a little piece of plastic is rattling around in there. I had the dealer look into it and they couldn't find anything. If the road isn't perfectly smooth it rattles like crazy. If I push up on the back of overhead console/controls then the rattle goes away. I'd love to just pull that thing down and get a look and see if something is rattling or if I can put some felt or something in there if it's hitting something else. All I can see are two screws. I unscrewed them and tried pulling down but couldn't get it to budge. I didn't want to pull too hard, don't want to break it. Just curious if anyone knows how to remove the overhead unit. Thanks!

I have the exact same issue and have escalated to HMA - they are sending out a regional manager and a field engineer to look at it (and the other issues with my roof in this post http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=16827&page=2) on the 31st.

I actually have 2 different noises from that overhead console - one is a creaking and the other is a rattle. Depends on the day and temp as to which I get! I'll let you know what I find out.

In the meantime, here's the way Hyundai instructs their techs to remove the console:

Thanks! Anxious to see what they say about your rattle. And thanks for posting the pic on removing the lamp console. I removed the screws but wasn't able to pull down the unit. I didn't want to pull any harder for fear of breaking it.

Once you take it apart and screw it up you will have no warranty......
Try another dealer to solve your problem if they can't fix it SCREAM to hyundai corp. to get some action. For the price of this demand action...

Same exact issue here.

This morning I had the thought that maybe it is the sunglass holder not being weighed down, will test on my way home once I find a heavy object.

I see no harm in pulling it down (carefully) to see if something broke loose up in there - but if the removed console itself rattles when you shake it, then it's clearly something internal to that part that the Hyundai needs to figure out.

I have a similar rattle. Mine sounds like it is coming from where the A pillar meets the roof liner ( driver's side) . Sounds like a wire or wire group is rattling against the internal steel of the pillar and roof. Plan on taking it in to dealer next week. I would have no idea how to get in there to take a look.

Mine was doing that for the last couple of days. I gave the control panel a good hit with my fist and it stopped making noise. To me, it seems like a couple of plastic parts that snap together starting to rub against each other. A lubricant would probably help.

Did they ever figure out what was causing your rattle?

Yes - Dealer said they "removed and reinstalled in correct position" - That completely fixed the annoying rattle/creaking (there were 2 distinct issues) from the map light console. Fixed in September and still noise free (from the map light console - the pano sunroof is still an issue depending on the day/temperature).
