If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I purchased a 2015 RWD Tech package on Saturday in Plano, TX and will be picking it up tomorrow. This will be the 3rd Hyundai I have owned (2010 Sonata and 2012 Vera Cruz) and have never purchased an extended warranty in the past. After reading some posts on the forum concerning issues with the Lexicon system I am considering buying the extended 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty. The cost the dealer showed me was $2,295 and I was told they would discount it down to $1,878. I imagine there is some more negotiation room here.

My question is what have you been quoted or paid for the extended warranty and thoughts of its value for the 2015 Genesis?

It might be worth it if you plan to keep the car. It is a tough call, I think our electronics warranty is only 3 years if I remember correctly. That leaves you with a lot of exposure if the nav or radio goes out.

Personally I did not get the extended warranty as I leased the car. I might buy it at the end of the lease, if it seems reliable. If I see problems cropping up will likely dump it.

Depends on how long you plan to own and your appetite for risk...

Ithanks, I plan on keeping it for a long time and am concerned about the electronics only having 36 months. I just feel that the price is high and was hoping to get it for less.

You can purchase a Hyundai Platinum Extended Warranty at any dealer, even via phone or internet. Search the forum for threads where you can find a dealer who may sell it for less than $1500. There are many threads on this subject.

From a thread I was just reading, "Ready to pull the trigger...negotiating strategies?":

12 - Unless you have money to burn DO NOT purchase an extended warranty (a HPP VSC in Hyundai lingo) from the selling dealer without checking around. I've seen prices for the 10/100/0 VSC in the $1800 - $2300 range. I bought mine for $1150 from an out of state dealer. It's all HPP so it's good at any Hyundai dealer. I've been told that the typical dealer makes many multiples of profit on the VCS over the car itself.
Hope this is of some use to you, JoeCarl and welcome to the forum!

IIRC, in 2G 2015+ all electronic gizmos are covered 5 years/~50,000 miles.

3yr/36k miles on electronics for 2015, I heard but cannot confirm that 2016+ will cover electronics for the 5yrs/60k miles.

2015 or 2016?

2016 is for sure. A great improvement.
If it is also valid for 2015 sales after announcement that would be great!

What would be ideal is if they make the better coverage retroactive for all second generation Genesises, 2015 and forward.

Definitely.
Fair for us and a BIG show of thrust in the product.
If mine were not a lease I would also welcome to pay for this extra warranty.
(I mean, the bridge between 36m and 60m for 2016s)
Again, would be cheap and reassuring for the Brand perception.

The infotainment/electronics are indeed extended to 5y/60k on MY2016 cars. From the Hyundai warranty page:

Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system and Bluetooth®): for MY 15 and prior, 3 years/36,000 miles—Equus: 5 years/60,000 miles
Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system and Bluetooth®): for MY 16, 5 years/60,000 miles for all models

With that said, does the extended warranty cover all electronics? Quite a few warranties aren't really "bumper-2-bumper" and exclude quite a bit of things.

According to the HPP site - the following is covered for the full term of the platinum warranty:

Hyundai Audio
• Antenna, Radio (Base Assembly)
• Brackets
• Cabling and Wiring
• Controls (Rear Seat)
• Radio (AM, AM/FM) Speakers, Cassette Player, Digital CD Player, Graphic Equalizer, Premium Sound Amplifier (Factory-Installed)
• Rear Entertainment System (Factory-Installed)

They are not going to do it retroactively. The 2015 and 2016 warranty terms are listed on the Hyundai webpage, and pertain to all Hyundai's, not just Genesis. Starting in 2016, all the electronics are covered up to 5 years or 60K miles.

Yes, there is a Hyundai Platinum Extended Warranty that covers everything for 10 years or 100K miles (except for normal wear and tear items that only covered for 1 year). There may be a deductible (they offer several versions with various deductibles).

I never felt that they would. I've got a pretty good idea how big business works these days.

I don't see what it has to do with big business.

Just to clarify, the change in warranty terms is across the board for all Hyundai vehicles and they don't change the warranty based on when a model undergoes major changes.

I have said many times before (even though some do not believe me) that warranty expense is a marketing cost, not any engineering cost. So there is nothing irrational, improper, or immoral about changing warranty terms starting in 2016, even though the 2015 and 2016 Genesis are almost identical.

wait, i thought the electronics were covered up to 60k miles no ? even for the 2015 models no ?

dirtyoldman told you exactly what it is (applies to all Hyundai's unless noted):

Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system and Bluetooth®): for MY 15 and prior, 3 years/36,000 miles—Equus: 5 years/60,000 miles

This info is available on the Hyundai Motor America website.

Regarding what the HPP VSC does and does not cover, pasted below is part of a posting on 6.30.15. The way the warranty documentation is worded, it is easily misinterpreted by many, me included, to say that collision avoidance and radar cruise control systems are not covered. They in fact ARE covered. See below.

I called the business office at HPP to ask about the much discussed presumed exclusion on this forum of the collision avoidance and laser radar cruise control systems. Anyone who has been keeping up with this discussion is aware that many of us, including me before today, have concluded that these two systems are among the items/systems that are excluded from coverage in the HPP Platinum plan.
After receiving a copy of the complete agreement I read the exclusions list thoroughly and concluded that these systems are indeed included in HPP's platinum plan. All of this can be found in Section III, Item 15. If one reads the second sentence carefully, these items/systems are excluded ONLY if they are "not approved by the covered vehicle's manufacturer". In other words, aftermarket stuff.
The HPP representative I spoke with confirmed that all of these systems are not excluded (read included or covered) provided they are originally installed equipment. (For aftermarket stuff we are on our own.)

I'm damned sure not a lawyer but based on my own research, I feel pretty good about my purchase.

You are correct. It is covered so long as it is not aftermarket stuff added on by owner, and the original text is just poorly worded.
