In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. So I was cleaning the inside of my car, when I notice a decent amount of water on the passenger side floor. During the summer my car sleeps outside and it rained a lot Friday night. I call the dealer and I'm taking it in tomorrow but the lady mention that it is probably the drain line for the AC clogged up and it is draining inside the car. Which I can see it happening since this was a huge problem with Ford Explorer's but I rarely use my AC.

Anyone experience this? I really think I have water leaking from somewhere but we will see.

The lady is probably right - if your car sleeps outside, the air intakes in front of the windshield may have brought in some pollen, seeds, dust etc which then goes down thru to the A/C evap. drain and clogs it.

The humidity around here (N. VA) has been something else this summer, and every time I park either car, the A/C dumps maybe a pint of condensate.

I have had the problem and usually the pass. side carpet gets soaked.

Never heard of one single instance of this happening on the 2009-2014 Genesis.

A lot of people on the forum are also complaining about mildew in their 2015 AC system, far beyond any complaints from the first generation Genesis, and apparently due to clogging of vents. Here is a sample thread:

Sounds like Hyundai has some work to do. There is no way I would even consider buying a Genesis with these problems.

Except for the thread you posted in with the same problem?

That four page thread about mildew actually has about two or three people with the problem and the rest is others diagnosing or commenting on it.

The work to do likely will not be driven by a handful of posts on a forum. By my experience so far, they have done better than most. You should wait buying until these forum threads here clear up, thankfully no issues reported on the 2009-2014 threads ;)

I don't understand your point. My point is twofold:

  1. I don't recall anyone ever reporting a problem with passenger floor being flooded on the first generation Genesis.
  2. The incidence of horrible smells on the 2015 A/C units seems to be much higher than on the first generation Genesis, and much more severe.
This bothers me because it is deal killer for me, and I was thinking I might get a 2016 or 2017 Genesis (I only have 53K miles on my first generation right now). But there is no way I would get a Genesis unless this problem is fixed.

As an informed and helpful regular here, you know that every issue mentioned here is not prevalent on all cars or necessarily a widespread issue. This problem effecting a handful you want fixed by 2017 may not even be a problem beyond a few cars here - here is one owner without the problem. A deal killer?

I hope you are correct, but I don't recall a single person ever complain about water flooding their front passenger floor before on a 2009-2014 Genesis (except for a few idiots who tried to drive on a flooded street). I don't see how the designers can allow such a thing to happen?

Also, on the 2009-2014 there were a small number of people (mostly who never changed their cabin filter) who complained about odors from the A/C, but nothing like the apparent intensity of the problem on the 2015.

I live in a warm humid climate, so I am worried about these things.

I also am wondering if these two issues are related.

I have actually had this happen on a couple of cars of mine - including an 05 Accord. Once I cleared out the leaves and crud from the summer & fall - the problem went away. Had the same thing on a Lincoln Continental back in the earl 2000's. This does indeed happen - I have read & heard about it on and off across multiple manufacturers over the years.

could this be due to the cowl cover? the pertinent tsb mentions possible water intrusion into the cabin as the reason part of the lower cowl cover is being replaced on some cars...

Have you had the cowl cover replaced under the following TSB? It mentions improper seal may allow water intrusion into the cabin:

I had this problem 4 years ago and it was because Wasps had built a mud nest in the drain tube of the A/C. A friend cleaned out the tube with a thin wire and solved the problem.:)

I dropped the car this am and the service manager explained to me that the problem is the clogged line. Apparently it is very common on the 2015 Genesis. I got a call later today stating that they got that cleaned up but they are keeping my car until Wednesday because they are waiting for parts for the 2 recall/campaigns my genesis have. They are also looking at my rear view mirror. It is kind of loose and after a week of driving the mirror lowers and I have to reset it back in place.

I just had the cowl fix done to my Genesis last week. I have not had any issues with my Genesis, but it is garaged most of the time. I had the fix done because it was recommended by Hyundai and I had the car in for service anyway.

So I finally got my car back yesterday. The lady did mentioned that it was not the AC line but it was water coming from the cowl cover. They did all the recalls(cowl cover, dummy housing, tires) plus fixed my loose rear view mirror. I must say, I like the old Hankook tires more.

This cowl fix thing - it definitely applies to us V8 people on the 2015?

Is it a big job?

Here's one. 2011 Genesis. Water in the passenger floor. Seems very similar to what is being described in this thread.

The cowl cover does apply to the V8 and I think the V6 as well. I think it is likely the cause for the musty smell and water problem. I did not have the symptoms, but I did have the cowl service done on my vehicle.

This happened to me on my 2005 Lexus GS 300. Years ago, I went on a road trip from Miami to Virginia with my wife and daughter. On our way back to Miami after 7 days, iI was at a gas stop and my daughter said the floor was very wet. I scolded her for spilling something from the cooler we had on our back seat. I check it all out, and the entire back floor was soaked. We went to a gas station and I wet vacuumed the car. But water kept coming back. To make a long story short, the same thing happened. A piece of plastic got into the condensation line and eventually blocked the drainage tube; Something from post production. Anyhow, they had to "Gut" my car; seats, carpet, ... EVERYTHING. It was a nightmare. Sorry this happened to you.
