back up camera

2014 3.8 premium. back up camera works about 50% of the time. either black ed out or side to side blurring. no other issues with info head display. Seems extreme summer heat is issue. Dealer said unless it happens to them they won't touch it. Question how do I get dealer to come around. Does not seem right. Why would I want a camera serviced if it was not a problem.

If you have a smartphone, take a video of the screen when it happens. For kicks, make a handful of videos of it not working at various times. Show it to the dealer. That usually works.

If the dealer still refuses to fix it, get it in writing that they are aware of the issue and refuse to fix. Then contact Hyundai corporate and inform them that they may be liable should an accident occur while backing up.

It happened to my backup camera four times last weekend when it was hot and humid. Two times it was complete blackout, two time it was distorted video. I recorded it on my smart phone, so when I have my oil change next week I will show it to dealer.

I am experiencing the same issue as it has been very hot here in Southern California. The dealer told me they would have to reenact the issue to fix it. Since it only happens around lunch time and when it's been very hot, it doesn't seem possible. I was going to try video taping it and asking them about it when I go in for my next oil change.

I know I say a thread earlier about someone taking apart their trunk liner and found where the back up camera connects and unplugged it and plugged it back in and hasn't seen the issue since. I was going to try that.

It seems to be a temperature issue. Last week in the 80's all week no issues.
Back up to 92 camera issues all day.

Here in southern New Jersey, we had many, many days into the 90s with several days very close to 100. Never had any problem with my back-up camera in my 2009 4.6 Genesis sedan.

I think it's rather affected by humidity than heat.

My '11 Genesis was having an intermittent wonky camera issue. I brought it into the dealership and he was able to isolate it and prove it in 60 seconds. Have someone sit in the car and put it in reverse to engage the camera. Open the trunk, and beat around the camera area firmly. (Not enough to damage anything, but firmly.) If the camera skitsez out and displays any sort of bad video during this, then it is a faulty camera module. If not, then it is likely a head unit issue. My tech did this, proved bad camera, replaced camera.

After 6 months the entire head unit for the nav/entertainment died. Warranty replacement (thank god, the part was $8000!) and after that, the camera wasn't working. I have found that if I start the car and shift into reverse before hitting the center knob to get rid of the "drive safely" warning, the camera works. But any other time it doesn't. Haven't gotten around to going back to the dealer because I barely paid attention to it anyway.

I had the camera replaced last year.. and just ordered a new one...

I went to the dealership to change oil and, as I expected, camera was working when I was there. I showed video on my cell phone about backup camera malfunctions. Service rep said that they couldn't use cell phone video to submit claim to Hyundai, they had to see it personally.

So, I came home, opened trunk, removed liner. Found the connector for the backup camera and unplugged it. Reconnected the plug, installed liner back. I didn't have backup camera malfunctions since then.
