  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Heated Seats with fan?

Last week in a very cool car I turned on the heated seats. Climate control was off completely. I noticed that the same fan that runs with ventilated seats runs with the heated seat. Mine makes quite a bit of noise so I knew it was the same fan running. Is the seat fan supposed to run while the heated seats are on? I will add this to my growing list for my first service but wanted to see if it was normal first.

I've had a 2015 AWD Signature and this is probably my #1 complaint - the loud fan when heat or vented seats are on. I've never been in a car where turning on heated seats requires a fan, at least not one that I can easily hear if the Radio is off.

Kind of a bummer as the cabin is otherwise very quiet and (so far) rattle free except for when the seat climate control is on...

I wonder if there are some bad fans or I just have young ears :-)

The heated seats don't require the fan; the cooled seats do. Since my seats don't have the cooling feature they make no noise and they don't look as wrinkly either.

I believe you mean the seats with heaters/coolers use the fan in both modes whereas the seats with only heaters do not have a fan. Correct?

On the ultimate the seat fan runs with the heated seats corresponding to the hi, med and low settings. I can't hear it but it really makes a draft on cold winter mornings.

OP has a G2, so I'm not sure if that's a different fan/heating config that your G1.

I never understand why folks post about their G1's in the G2 thread - it's irrelevant and usually just confuses people with questions about the G2.

Also, have no idea what is meant by wrinkly seats? The G2 seats are not at all wrinkly - and, at least at the upper trim level, are much nicer than the G1 seats by all accounts I've read (and my own recent experience with a friend's G1).

Because these are the same car, made by the same manufacturer that (at times) have the SAME ISSUES from 2009 to 2016. It provides continuity in the issue.

For instance. In this thread, the OP wants to know why his heated seat has a fan. Lo-and-behold, my 2009 ALSO has a fan for the heated seat. This confirms normal operation across generations and helps avoid the blind leading the blind.

Your 2009 having a fan for heated seats doesn't mean the operation of the 2015 should behave the same way. It's a VERY different car from 2015 on.

I get you were commenting on how your fan sounds, which could be somewhat helpful in understanding if any noise is possibly normal so my reply was not directed at you specifically. The actual post I was referring to talked about heated seats with no fan in a G1.

To be honest, I usually just click on the New Posts, or Today's Posts button, and read whatever comes up. And it's not always clear to me whether I'm in a G1 or G2 area. Not to mention the Coupe area!!
