  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Finally had some snow in Minnesota. Total confidence, on snow covered yet plowed roads traction was flawless, roads with 10" of snow were a blast, this thing just ate up everything. My only complaint is that the wipers tend to freeze up, super annoying when it's constant snow coming down.
Snow mode also seems a bit useless, it works but is not really necessary.

agreed! my htrac gets around great in the snow, although i haven't driven it in deep snow (6 inches or more). however i do wonder if deep, hard packed snow like drifts or mounds left by plowing could damage the under body panels?? overall i can't complain about the car's performance on snow/ice!

Surely they anticipated deep snow with the HTRAC?

one would think...but i'm not sure how durable those panels are, or even what they are made of. i've yet to get under the car and really look. i'm not too worried about it...but do wonder.

The panels are very durable and I see no issue with snow. They are secured very well also, too well as an oil change now becomes a PITA. Right now it's coming down pretty good, forecast is for 16" today.

I'm envious, as I really wanted an AWD (and not for snow, but for wet roads), but not more than I wanted a V8. Ah well, first world problems.

That makes two of us, however a used Jeep Grand Cherokee makes a great winter driver for those kind of days and keeps the Genesis tucked away from all that stuff as well as the crazy snow drivers.

the crazy snow drivers
You referring to me. :D Actually bought tickets to go see star wars today because I know not many will be on the roads or at the theatre today.

That is a fantastic idea!

We had a big snow storm in Chicago-land the day after I got my Genesis AWD. I was amazed at how good the car was on the All Season Michelins. I have had several AWD SUVs, but none of them even came close to the performance of the Genesis.

After another day of driving around my opinion of Snow Mode has changed.
While it won't let you do anything you can't do in Standard, it does quite effectively "smooth out" the experience.
Just press the gas pedal and go, and forget there's any snow at all.
I'm also running on the Michelin all seasons and they're completely adequate for deep snow.

My first experiences with snow covered roads came over the last week as well. I agree, it had no issues with traction at all. Mine came with the Hankook's not the Michelin's.

My understanding of snow mode is that it reduces torque, so you probably can get moving without spinning the wheels in some of the most extreme conditions. I noticed a difference in a snow covered parking lot where I had to turn around.

Snow mode I found was actually almost dangerous as it cranks the power down so much is was like I had a lawn mower engine in there. Yesterday a punched through a snowbank to park my car at the restaurant. The plow came by and locked me in. No way could I get out in normal mode as the traction control intervened far too much. Disabled it and I came through in Jeep fashion immediately. Sometimes you need a little wheel spin, just something to keep in mind.

Just like with anything the different modes are ideal for most, but not perfect in every scenario as Midnightsun's example show.

I have found the Snow mode to be extremely useful in the cases of snow packed roads. As someone mentioned before, it greatly reduces the torque and does all it can to keep you at a low RPM to avoid your tires slipping. It's especially useful on slippery roads that have any type of incline.

I did that Christmas day. Took the Genesis. Of course, I was wearing shorts and a tee-shirt...... :p

How do you put the car into Snow mode? When I cycle through my drive modes I only have Normal, Eco and Sport. I have HTRAC so not sure if the option is only available sometimes?

Press and hold the mode switch for more than one second. That will activate Snow Mode.

On a side note, my salesman who was generally pretty knowledgeable about the car, did not know this. I tipped him off after reading this forum. :)

Awesome, thanks for the info!
