  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

:eek::eek::eek:

Last night while at the gym some guys broke into 5 lockers.
They cut the padlock and stole the key's ( only the Key's ) from five of us.

When I got to the locker room and noticed that my locker was opened I went trought all my things and all that was missing was my key fob.

I rushed outside and the car was there.

It was unlocked but all was still inside. I called my wife to come by with the other set and got back home.

Now I'm afraid that someone will come by and grab my car. I called the dealer and they ordered an other fob, but will only have monday.

I think that I will unplug the battery.

I asked the dealer to change all 3 key locks, but he said that since the fob and car will be reprogramed, the allarm will sound if the key is used without the good fob???.

What do you guy's think. New keys or not???

Since the fob's are programmed to the car and I know it's possible to reprogram them... have the dealer erase all of the fobs from the car's memory then add back in the ones you have. This way if the guy comes back to the gym, his stolen fob will no longer work with your car.

I knew there was a good reason why I sat on the couch watching basketball games on TV last weekend instead of going to the gym.

ok for the fob, but what about the key???

They can still unlock the car, trunk and glove compartement

I would have all my locks changed & my car reprogrammed for new FOBS & as someone who has been in law enforcement for over 17 years i can tell you someone on the inside might have something to do with that crime and/or was looking out for someone who did in fact commit the crime (just my guess)

Yep, I'd change the keys and fob. Reprogramming the fob doesn't prevent the thief from vandalizing your car.

I think I saw this somewhere else also> The Key only Opens the Glove Box. When you use a Valet you first go into the glove box and shut down the trunk open switch and then lock the glove box and keep the key in your pocket and give the Valet the Fob. The Trunk open on the Fob is disabled as well as the Trunk open switch on the drivers door is disabled. I think I stumbled into this when I locked something in the glove box and couldn't open the trunk any more until I unlocked the Glove box (not sure if I hit the trunk switch in the glove box or not). Check the manual, I think I have the basics correct but a little fuzzy on the details. Bottom line, key is only for Glove Box..

The trunk can also be opened manually with the key. On the far left side (opposite of the trunk release handle) is a keyhole that accepts the key. Whether the electronic lock in the glove box disables the manual locking mechanism I don't know; I haven't tried it.

No offense, but what kind of retarded gym do you go to?

I agree. I go to a gym that have been open for 30 years. The employees are always on the lookout. During the 30 years, they only had 1 theft incident in 1987. Many wealthy people go there so you would think there would be a lot of theft; nope, just good employees.

Anyway, Sorry to hear about your keyfob being stolen. I hate people who break the law. I wish USA and Canada would toughen the consequences for people who steal, or do damage.
