If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

All,

I would just like to know if you guys have noticed that the digital speedometer and the analog speedometer seem to be off by 1-2 MPH. For example I'm going 74 on the analog speedo and the digital one in between the tach and speed reads 72 or 73.

Thanks!

No problems with reading the same on my car........

I noticed that too when I first got my car. I took it in for an oil change and told the service advisor about it. They took it for a test drive and noticed it too. They told me it's because the analog measures wheel rotations while the digital display is the gps calculated speed. Not sure if that's true or not; personally I thought it was a load of bull. I just chalked it up to one of those things that's unexplainable but is somehow "normal".

For instance, the other day my driver's side window would only go down in 2" increments. I got to my destination and when I turned on the car to leave, somehow it worked perfectly again so I knew the dealership would say "not able to duplicate" so I didn't even bother. Sometimes, neither of my rear windows roll down from the driver side buttons. Not until I press each button 4-5 times do they finally start to come down. Once they come down though, they work perfectly. I want to get this addressed before warranty runs out but I already know they will be "unable to duplicate problem". I'm thinking of just pulling out my phone and filming whenever I have to roll down windows just in case the gremlins are present at that moment.

There is a reset procedure for windows. IIRC, you roll the window down and hold the button down for a few seconds, and repeat the procedure rolling the window up. It's in the manual. Other posts have referenced this fixing the wonky behavior you are describing.

Check the manual, I may not have it exact.

I found it:

To reset the power windows
If the power windows do not operate
normally, the automatic power window
system must be reset as follows:
1. Place the Engine Start/Stop button
to the ON position.
2. Close the window and continue
pulling up on the power window
switch for at least one second.
If the power windows do not operate
properly after resetting, have the
system checked by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.

I can't wait to try this later when I get home! Thanks!

As to the discrepancy in the digital vs. analog speedometer, my car reads the same and is the same as the "your speed" road signs. My 2013 Toyota Avalon had the same issue as your car; a 1-2 mph discrepancy. I had this checked by Toyota service and was told that the digital reading was the correct one and the analog one could not be set to match.

Mine does, too

Now it's a question to which one is correct?

I would bet money on the digit one being more accurate, as is is fed off of the GPS signal.

Easy test is to put in a Garmin or TomTom nav unit that displays the speed and check which one in your car it agrees more with.

Ultimately, this is just an academic question, no one will ever get in trouble for going 1-2 miles faster than allowed ...

Now it's a question to which one is correct?

On both of my V8s, I found when I replace the tires and they are new thread (say 500) both readings are the same, but once I get bellow 50% tread wear, I notice the speedo reading is around 1-2 miles more than the GPS....

I replaced 4 sets so far, on both cars...

YMMV.

I checked today, and the 'digital' reading, speedometer and HUD values were identical. I know the speedometer reads high by, say, 2 high at 30 mph. So to me, I don't think the digital value is GPS. I have GPS on a Garmin unit I used in my Sonata. I cannot see it on the NAV page in the car which is a shame. That was useful where we have camera systems to catch the unwary speeding. I still have to check the Garmin unit with the car.

about the speedometer and the digital yes in my car there is a gap for 1 MPH

and we use KM in Saudi Arabia and its almost 2 KM

I did a test today with my Garmin (recently purchased current model) and compared GPS speeds. As I have said before, the speedo, digital and HUD speeds are all the same. The car systems speed was 2 mph more at a GPS of 30 mph and 3 mph more at 60/70 mph. This is what I expected. The speedometers are always designed to give higher values, well, at least here in the UK. I don't believe the digital value is GPS, and I can't see the point of it. I think it's a shame the NAV unit does not show GPS speed. Every add-on unit (Garmins) I've purchased always show it.

Same here, but maybe off more like 3 MPH at high speed with digital showing a slower speed than the analog speedometer

Digital speedometer reads 1mph high for me almost no matter the speed I'm going, which doesn't make sense to me. If I'm keeping a steady speed and the analog speedometer reads 40,50, 62, or 72 (my most common speeds,) a phone's gps and the car's gps both read the exact same. In all cases the digital speedometer shows +1mph.

It's one of my largest gripes about the G2 genny, which goes to show what an amazing job Hyundai did with this major redesign. (At least outside of the tire problems.)

Where are you reading the 'car's GPS'?
