If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Sunroof Seel Peeling

Dropping my car off tomorrow afternoon to have mine replaced. Hopefully it goes well the 1st time and doesn't take multiple repairs.

Do you know if there is a TSB for this yet or is your dealer working with a HMA rep who requested this to be done?

When I took my car in a little over a month ago to have the tires replaced I pointed it out to the service advisor. He said he had not seen that seal have issues yet, but I pointed out on the Genesis loaner car they gave me that it was doing the same thing (and worse).

They had to special order the seal and it took quite some time to get (about 4 weeks). When I was in last weekend for my 1st oil change I asked about the seal and they said it had come in, but would take time to replace so I'm taking the car back tomorrow.

I'm not aware of any TSB and I did not have to do any convincing to get them to fix it. The service advisor looked at it, said it was clearly wrong and would replace it under warranty.

Most of us are pending a TSB to get it fixed. Others had the seal replaced (which requires complete removal of the sunroof) and just a short time later the issue came back. Others had new sunroofs installed but haven't heard if any of those had the reocurring issue. Good luck and keep us posted.

What's a TSB? I am one of those customers where I had the seel replaced and the peel occurred again. I had it fixed twice, still not perfect or as should be. Be careful, after they(cooperate) try fixing it a couple times Hyundai will say, Car as is, deal with it.... because if they try to fix any one item too many times, can cause the care to fall under the various lemon law. Anybody seen 2016's with this issue, or cars with a more recent build date?

I think Hyundai is hoping the problem just goes away...

The work to replace the seal required the complete removal of the rear roof panel by a specialist. I've got the car back now and it looks good. We'll see how it holds up going into winter. It's cool enough now I don't expect to use the sunroof much (if at all) before next spring.

I have only used mine 3-4 times and mine is peeling pretty bad. I don't want to get it repaired until Hyundai has a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) on how to repair it properly. I have pointed it out to my dealer so they are aware of it. They are also aware of it on the new cars on the lot they have yet to sell. :D

This picture was taken back in April.

I may have missed this, but could a conditioner/grease of some kind prevent this for those yet affected? I assume this has been tried.....

TSB is....... Technical Service Bulletin

"XSOLARA", seems that you had the same seal problem. Have you had yours repaired?

Great question, I'm curious, too. I was considering some kind of vinyl protectant like Lexol, but haven't tried yet due to the possibility that it might make the problem worse. However, it doesn't appear that the problem is caused by opening and closing the roof if new cars still on the lot are showing the same signs.

nope not me...... so far seal seems ok (build date 9/14)

My car is less than 1 month old and it is showing some deformation on the front and back of sliding glass.....it's been open twice

XSOLARA, sorry, I misinterpreted the above to be a possible peeling problem. Happy yours is still fine, as is mine, but hasn't been opened more than 3 or 4 times. DOB: 3/15

Good news: My new seal is holding up really well and looks much better.

Bad news: I think there may be a leak in my rear top window panel.

This past week we've had some very wet weather followed by very cold weather. On my drives into work I notice that the rear window has been fogging up quite easily around the edges and bottom.

Yesterday after letting the car sit in the garage all weekend I took it out Sunday night to run some errands. When I came out of the store every window inside my car was frosted over. I took the car home and left it outside again and the back side and rear windows frosted over again. It also sounds like there is ice trapped in the rear roof (lots of ice cracking noise).

I plan on calling the dealership this morning to drop it off tot look at, as I can't understand why there would be so much moisture inside the car. (rubber floor mats are dry, etc).

My car has 500 miles on it and it developed a rattle in the sunroof. I had it checked at the dealer today and they ordered a whole panoramic sunroof replacement. There was also significant peeling of the trim seals.

2015 or 2016?

Not until I saw this thread did I bother to check my roof panel seals. I have the same issue but I may not be inclined to have anything repaired since I have no leaks, noise or other issues with it.....yet. It sounds like there's a possibility of doing more harm than good if I have them mess with it.

My 2015 G2 has 18K on it and it makes me happy....

Is there a best method to upload photos from an IPad? I can't seem to copy and paste....thanks.

I took the delivery of a 2016 AWD V6 with a built date of 7/15 about 2 weeks ago. The car only has about 190 miles on it now. I saw a look like new Genesis with the sunroof completely dismantled in the lot about a month ago when I took my Sonata for oil change. I thought that was odd but downplayed it as an isolated case. Remembering what I saw, I worked the sunroof a couple of times during delivery to make myself feel comfortable. I operated one more time to show my wife at home. I did not know about the seal problem until I read this post today. Went out to take a look at the car. The seal was perfect. Hope they did fix the problem with the later production car.

I've been having the squeaky/creaking sunroof for over a year now. The dealer applied their service bulletin to "fix" the issue, which is really just masking the issue with some type of lubricant that became less and less effective over time. It's at the point now where the dealer "fix" lasts for less than a day. I just happened to start reading this thread, which prompted me to go look at my sunroof seal. And sure enough, mine has peeled away from the back window panel. From some of the posts in this thread, it appears this may be the real cause of the noisy sunroof I've been having since soon after I took delivery.

I'm also seeing that just replacing the seal on the panel will be about as useful as the service bulletin for the "fix" to the noise issue - it lasts about a day. So, is the only solution to this to have the rear glass panel replaced, or is it to replace the entire panoramic sunroof? I actually left my service manager a message this morning letting him know that the noise is past the point of acceptable and it's time he truly fixes the root cause rather than masking the problem for a day. That was before I discovered on here tonight that my seal has separated from the rear glass panel.

It sounds like some on here have had success fixing both issues with replacing the rear glass panel on the roof. It will be interesting to see what if anything my dealer knows about this issue and how to fix it. This just seems like a pretty poor quality issue for such an expensive vehicle, especially if cars are having this before they are even sold.

Can't wait to see how this plays out....

It's strange I don't find this issue in the Equus threads.....wonder if they show the same separation while still on the lot.
I've had my G2 for 9 mos. here in Fla and have the roof open several times a day.....I see the separation but have no leaks or noise from it....🤔
I'll hold off on making this an issue while I try to figure out which way the wind will blow on the tire replacement issue......there are a lot of different dealer experiences out there on that one.
