  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I currently have a 2010 4.6 with 85,000 miles and one year left on my platinum extended warranty. As you can tell with my username, this car has had so many issues, it really is incredible. I just replaced the catalytic converter out of warranty for $1800. I keep seeing all these great discounts on 2015 Genesis and Equus. I had one dealership down to $48000 on a 2015 Equus ultimate in North Carolina which is 21k off the sticker. I would also entertain a 2015 Genesis signature for the right price which seems somewhere around $30,000. I usually never buy first year models. I would get 8k-10k for my current Genesis. I see plenty of dealerships in my area with plenty of 2015 Genesis which is in south Florida. What do you guys think? Should I wait till the end of the year or go for it now? Thanks.

I'd wait until several months after the new G80s are in the showrooms. Then, I'd consider a slightly used '16 model IF I didn't want the '17. In your case, that should be about the time your extended warranty expires.

There are several factors to consider:

Resale value of your current car: A lot of cars lose value after 100,000 mi. You'd probably get more money selling it before it crosses that number.

Inventory: There are still a lot of 2015s on the lot. Most of these will be gone by the end of the year. I think (purely a guess) that the 2016s will probably be about the same price this time next year. They may be a little cheaper due to the G80, or they may produce fewer of them.

Have you considered a used 2015? There will be more and more of these cars hitting the used car lots as time goes on. These are likely to be a much better deal than new.

Considering all of these factors, I don't think you're going to get a significantly better deal by waiting until next year unless you get lucky enough to pick up the last 2015. If you're willing to chance it or not picky about options, it might be worth it to wait. However, depending on how much you drive the amount you save by waiting may be offset by the lower value of your current car.

Disclaimer: I am not a car salesman, this is just based on my limited experience buying cars. Someone who works for a dealership or who buys a lot of new cars can probably pinpoint when the prices are the lowest.

Good points StarPower, I'm also trying to wait it out until next year for the new '16 models to be discounted heavily like the '15s are now.

There probably aren't going to be as many 2016 models as were produced in 2015, so be careful.
