  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay! We should be back to normal either by now or within the next day or so. We moved to a new server - much more powerful than the old one - and it didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped it would. Our fault! We screwed up. In any event, things should be coming together.

So if you notice anything out of wack, this is why. Everything will come together..

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Does this mean the posts that got deleted will be restored, or are they gone?

Nothing was actually deleted - they just got posted on the old server. Is there a discussion going on about deleted posts? If so, point me to it and I'll see if there's anything I can do to bring them back - like copy and paste them here...

edit: It looks unlikely that the posts will be retrievable. There shouldn't be too many missing posts. Half the time we were pulling up THIS site - and half the time we were pulling up the OLD site. So being that we're really not even ALL that busy - losing half the posts for a few days isn't the end of the world. However, it does disturb me and I wish it didn't happen.. Not trying to say I don't care.. Just that there's not a whole lot I can do - and I'm trying to look at the brighter side of the picture...

In the IT world, we call that the split-brain syndrome, where somehow the primary and backup database are being used at the same time and get out synch. It can be pretty dangerous when dealing with things like banking systems and reservation systems.

I was beginning to wonder what was going on, lol.

Thanks for getting the site back up and online! This site has been invaluable to me in my quest for a new car which has been narrowed slowly but surely down to which Genesis I will buy, what color, and when.

I had made a few posts on the 15th responding to posts people made about previous posts I had made. One was in the "what you paid for your coupe" thread. They're all missing. Just a thought... might want to consider making a thread like this or an announcement before you start working on the site to warn your users. Personally, when I didn't see any posts, didn't get a mass email and didn't see any announcement, I thought there was a problem on my end.

EDIT: Don't want it to sound like I'm complaining... I'm not. As an Admin on another site, I just saw an opportunity to make a suggestion.

Was my post about the Hyundai spoof commercial deleted or lost?

I didn't delete anything.. Try reposting it. Sorry.

This is the way I normally do things.. However, there were other issues that caused the problems. One of the IP addresses for ONE of the name servers was incorrect. That's why half the time everything was working fine.. It was a silly mistake - and we did lose a few posts over it...

You lost more threads last night. That's what happens when you use a toy database like MySQL.

Strange.. We shouldn't have lost threads last night. In any event, there are no other options besides MySQL for this forum software. In fact, just about all forum software uses MySQL. Either that or flat html files - which take too long to load once there's a lot of discussion going on...

You definitely lost some more threads. The guy who posted about his dead battery and could not open his trunk. He created a new thread today (and mentioned that his thread yesterday disappeared, along with my response).

Sal, did you lose the data from the old server? I think doing a parallel change over was a bad idea. Should've just done a cutover, migrate data, run comparable data scripts, verify info and you're done. But what do I know, I'm just a member here :p
