  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

No - big time safety issue so I don't believe any car allows this (unless some do when parked?). However, if you have an iPhone, you can use Siri Eyes Free to read (and reply to) texts and e-mails.

My 2013 Chrysler 300C can do this - it reads the text message to you aloud while you're driving (I think it only allows access to read the text when the transmission is in "P" or the car is stopped). The Chrysler also doesn't allow me to enter destinations using the touch screen, it only allows to enter destinations using voice while driving, or using the touch screen when the transmission is in the "P" position or stopped.

The voice recognition system on the Chrysler is significantly better than the Genesis one I think, but still annoyingly stupid at times. That technology doesn't seem ready for prime time yet, at least not on the vehicles I have tried.

I think the Genesis should be able to read text messages while driving (maybe not show them on the screen though). It prevents people from picking up the phone to read text messages, which is definitely dangerous.

Not on the screen, but you can send or receive messages using Siri Eyes Free,

It doesn't even alert you when you have a text though. It will ring when you get calls, but definitely does not alert you that you have texts. Hopefully I'm wrong and just not set up correctly. It would be great if it alerted us so we can opt to have the text read aloud or the copilot riding shotgun can read it to us.

that would be a nice feature... Have the message read out load when your driving..

My 2012 E350 allows that, but I don't even get a notification with my 2015 Genesis

It can do that - if you have an iPhone and use the Siri Eyes Free function. It won't actively alert you to new texts, but you can ask "do I have any new texts?" and it will tell you if you do, read it for you and ask if you want to respond - all via voice commands. You access this by holding down the voice command button on the steering wheel for 2 seconds. You can do anything that Siri can provide a voice response for - otherwise, it will tell you it can't do that while you're driving.

Just set an recognizable alert tone for texts and use Siri Eyes Free when you hear it go off (but requires you having an iPhone).

No (but similar - "hey siri" came out later). There is no App - Siri Eyes Free is built into the car's system. You're phone just needs to be connected via Bluetooth - so it can be in your pocket (where "hey sIri" would not work).

so we have Siri eyes built in the Genesis?

When the phone is connected via Bluetooth, there are no alerts that you are getting texts. You'll arrive at your destination and see youve got multiple texts and not once did the phone make audible alerts. Siri eyes free will read the texts to me, not arguing that. But I need to be alerted that is got a text in the first place. The way it works now, I constantly have to check the phone to see if I got texts instead of just being alerted when I get them.

So does the DIS system (Ultimate Package) not have built in capability to alert and read out text messages?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and as another poster noted, Chrysler's uConnect does read out texts (this works as such on our other car, a 2013 Dodge). This functionality works without adjusting anything on the phone.

For this to work as such on the Genesis, would I need to activate something on my (Android) phone? Or download some sort of app?

Seems like a rather big oversight not to include this functionality on the Genesis...

I thought for "Hey Siri" it had to be connected to power. I just set mine up in my house, and it wouldn't work unless it was plugged in.

it does, i actually tried it at work this morning.. I voice command my sister and sent her a text without lifting a finger... worked pretty well IMO:D

Yes, "Hey Siri" only works if phone is plugged in. Siri Eyes Free in the Genesis works with Bluetooth so doesn't need the phone to be plugged in.

Edit - Actually, I just checked on my new iPhone 6s and "Hey Siri" now works without the phone plugged into power. However, it won't work very well in my pocket (won't hear me), so Siri Eyes Free is still a better choice in the Genesis - and works well with my phone in my pocket!.

Unfortunately Siri doesn't notify you when you get a response text. You have to take your eyes off the road and constantly check if you got a response. Once you see you have one, you can then use Siri eyes free to read it to you.

or.... ask Siri "Read me my new messages" You won't get notification, but you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
