  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Guys,

I'm a new member. I have been lurking the forum the last few weeks and have a couple questions. I have been looking at a few Genesis's the last couple weeks to replace my 09 Lexus GS 350. I have two in mind that I came across. Both are new 2013 R-Specs. My first question is should I even consider looking at them since the are 3 years old and still new? Second, One is white and they're asking $29,999 and the other is Gray and they're asking $32,799. You guys think that's fair prices or should I ask lower? I would appreciate any thoughts or opinions.

They are great cars. Comfortable and wicked fast for their size. Price doesn't seem unreasonable but you can always negotiate.

I love mine. If you go ahead, make sure the car's warranty start date is when you buy it------------------not when the dealer settled with Hyundai for the car.

Second previous poster's advice. It is called the "in-service" date and needs to be in writing somewhere in your contract or bill of sale.

If they have their original batteries I would also require a new one be installed. Those babies only last 3 years or so and cost between $150-$200+.

If they are both R-specs, why the price difference? They only came one way except for dealer addons.

where are they, I want one

Check the mileage. When I was searching for a G1 5.0 there were some labeled as "new" yet they had a couple thousand miles on them. Maybe it's a dealer demo if it has significant miles. The prices still seem pretty good (I paid $27k for a 2014 5.0 R-Spec with 14k miles), but you should double check mileage. It would be interesting to find out how the warranty works with a "new" vehicle that has 4K miles as an example.

Here in AZ a car can be sold as "new" if it has not previously been registered. That does NOT mean it hasn't been driven as an executive car, demo's and other specialty cars (loaned out for golf tournaments for example) frequently have miles on them.

That's why the prospective buyer needs to check the in-service date. This is the date the manufacturer starts the warranty clock ticking.

I was wondering the price difference as well. The only difference is the color. I planned on asking for a new battery and oil change. Who knows how much they have been moved in the last three years. I have been looking at auction prices for these cars and they are hovering around $23,500 - $25,000 for low mile ones. I think I might start at $25,750 and work up from there. I still don't know how I feel about a new car that has been sitting on the lot for three years.

One other thing that came to mind.....tires. If the cars still have their OEM tires mounted they may be flat spotted from sitting. Test drive the car first and pay attention to any vibration. It might be worth negotiating some replacements or figuring them into your offer price.

Check the date of build for each car..... I wouldn't be surprised if they were manufactured in February 2012! practically, it made them 4 years old cars!

Been there, done that. The salesman tried that on me, when I was looking for '13 rspec, 2 years ago.

It was at Pugi Hyundai in Downers Grove (I assume, you live in IL)
