Extremely disappointing - the people who paid the most for the technology on their vehicles are left out in the cold? How does that compute?
Which models have the 4.5 AVN system? From Hyundai's home page they list this as coming soon, but say it won't work with the Ultimate Package/DIS upgrade. I have a 2016 with the Signature package so I'm assuming I'll be ok?
Here's what Hyundai says: https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/PhoneIntegration/MicroSiteTemplate/MicroSiteTemplateFAQ/1938
Currently Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support are not available for the Hyundai Genesis. Hyundai is working on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support for 2015 and 2016 Hyundai Genesis models equipped with the Audio Video Navigation (AVN) 4.5 system. Unfortunately we do not have an availability date at this time. Updates for existing customer vehicles require a specific version of the on-board navigation map and we are working to deliver a solution, which will provide the map update, AppleCarPlay and Android Auto support at no additional cost. Due to hardware differences, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will not be offered for 2015 or 2016 Genesis with the Premium Driver Information System (DIS) Navigation system (system included in the Ultimate Package).
The Premium Driver Information System (DIS) Navigation System (included in the Ultimate Package) is not currently compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. We will have news on updates to the premium system for future model years, but do not anticipate updates for existing owners.
Wow - Hyundai screws the folks who bought the highest spec model? First with the promise of downloadable apps that did not ever appear (in fact, they actually took away the ones that were there!!!) and now no path for previously indicated Carplay Android Auto Support for us - and they want to be positioned as a premium brand...Really???
... My 2016 is also already developing some sunroof/headliner rattles and, now that I've been driving the car in daylight more and did my first major detailing this weekend, I noticed pretty significant panel alignment tolerance issues on the hood/passenger side front fender. QC is not where it needs to be for a "premium" offering. Between that and the crappy dealer/service experience, my next car will definitely NOT be a Hyundai (and not sure I'll keep this one for long anymore, either?).
+1 Hyundai should've said you can spend a few thousand bucks less on the same car to get better technology. Disappointing to say the least. Goodbye Hyundai, hello (insert competitor's name)!
Getting a little overly worked up here over a piece of tech
This is the way "premium" cars operate also. It is nothing new that when some new piece of tech becomes available or is shown in demo form, there is not always an upgrade path. Thats tech. Happens on $100K BMW's as well as computers, TV's, etc. If it it isn't on the car when you bought it, then don't get worked up if it never shows. Those who expect more than that by paying more for a premium car will also be disappointed, just with less money in your wallet.

The point is they should have said this from the beginning - instead they led most to believe it would be coming as an upgrade.
To be fair to Hyundai, I don't ever recall seeing a claim that the Genesis would positively get the upgrade for Android Auto, or Car Play. It's not mentioned in the brochures, or the online specs. Hyundai did say that they were planning to support Car Play and Android Auto in a general sense.
Several months ago they also were quoted as saying that AVN 4.x systems might possibly get the upgrade, but that the DIS system update was in doubt.
I can understand being disappointed, but you have to remember that Car Play specs have been a moving target for some time.
Paying more for a car does not equate to the having a tech advantage. BMW, MB and other high end German cars have lagged behind in car tech for years. With Siri eyes Free and an otherwise fine nav unit, I will not lose sleep over not having CarPlay. If it was not on the car when I bought it, I always assume it won't be there. In this case, that may have been the correct decision.
The whole CP and AA thing has been a moving target and a PR nightmare for everyone. While hoisted up as the next great thing years ago, it had missed almost every launch on all cars. Although now appearing on other cars, many less expensive, its absence does not take away from a car still loaded with tech and at a bargain price.
No offense but uh you bought that car so why complain after the fact? You had every opportunity to inspect the vehicle before buying it. Did you take it to the dealer and ask them to do something about it?HMA did indicate it was coming "unofficially" - not if... when. They should have kept their mouth shut as they ended up misleading people who contacted them. They also touted the downloadable apps, which they just took away?? I assumed that was a sign Car Play/AA were coming - obviously not. So now I can connect my car to my home wifi network and do what??? Very poor planning and execution on the premium DIS Infotainment system their part!
I'm OK with Siri Eyes Free and Google Search, but wanted to dump the iPhone for an Android and now would give up too much without AA - so I'm stuck with the iPhone.
What I'm more frustrated about is the lack of QC, sketchy build quality/attention to detail I've seen in 2 G2's I've owned. For example, how did a $50K car make it out of the factory with this kind of panel misalignment:

There are lot of things I really like the about the car, but if they can't get this basic QC stuff right, how can I trust the more critical items that I can't see? They will not be successful with this approach. I have had a lot of people complement the car and express interest in buying one - I warn them all off and tell them to wait a few years until Hyundai either learns how to do it right or exits. Otherwise, they are risking getting a buggy car.

I actually did not buy this car and they are fixing this. Regardless, the point that flew right over your head is that this level of fit and finish passed Hyundai QC...for their premium offering! What does this say about the QC and build quality of the rest of the car? You think this speaks well for your car or any other G2?
