  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I received a nice little pre-paid card to get some accessories from Hyundai and after looking at their site thought that getting a key card to stick in my wallet would be awesome.

http://www.hyundaiaccessories.com/accessories/2016/genesis/b1064-adu00/

So during my oil change at the dealer I told them I would like to order one and they had no idea what I was talking about, then came back with a 3rd party key card that was over $600 and was not guaranteed to work. I showed them the link above, they wrote down the part, called Hyundai (allegedly) and said the card they mentioned would go in the part on the link and that was just a case. None of this seems right to me so I just ordered the illuminated door plates (always have a plan B) until I can figure out what the real story is.

Any input or experience on this is welcome.

The key card is not offered on the USA version of the Genesis, and therefore Hyundai Motor America (HMA) does not stock the part. Dealers buy their parts from HMA.

You can get one in Canada, or from Korea, which do offer that part on some Genesis models. But not all USA dealers will program it (and even if they do, they will likely charge to program it).

Hope you enjoy those Mustang illuminated door sill plates on your Genesis.

Those are Hyundai OEM parts. If you had to rebuild the entire car by getting all the parts from the dealer parts department, it would cost about 5 times the MSRP of the assembled car.

Yeah I know what they are - but I'll be damned if I am gonna pay 90 bucks for two molded pieces of plastic and a spring that all fits in the palm of my hand... I don't care who made it. lolz.

I got mine for $225 off eBay. Please note that most locksmiths will not be able to cut the physical key part of the FOB to match your car because the built-in key in the card FOB is too thin for locksmith equipment. I know of two places that can cut it. One is in the DFW area (where I got mine done) and the other is in the Buffalo, NY area. That is not to say others won't be able to figure it out with a shim, but it would take some resolve on their part to do so.

You can still use the card FOB without the key portion however. Also, when you take the card FOB in for programming, you will need to take in both of your other FOBs along with it. All FOB programming has to occur at the same time.
