If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Radar Detector

I'm on the fence between a v1 and the max2 or 360 myself. Those of you with the passports, is it really necessary to get the 360 over the max2? For people who have used both the v1 and the passports, is the implementation of gps in the passports really the game changer that supposedly made the v1 obsolete?

I like the v1's arrows and although the 360 now also has the arrows, I feel $600 is a lot. With that said, if it really is that much better, then it is worth the money. But if it is just marketing fluff and you can get 95% of function for 75% price for a lesser yet just as capable rd, I'm all for that too.

The arrows on the Max 360 respond too slowly to be useful. I don't think it's worth the extra money over the Max 2.

The GPS, however, is very convenient. It's primary purpose is to lock out false K band alarms from stationary sources (e.g automatic door openers). After the first week, the detector is very quiet.

Another benefit of both the Max 2 and 360 is the ability to easily update the detector firmware. I just updated my Max 360 to version 1.4, which is supposed to reduce Ka band falsing. So far, I get noticeably fewer false Ka band hits, but I still get some. I also seem to get fewer false alarms from BSM systems, but I think it's still too early to tell.

As for Waze vs Escort Live, I use Escort Live occasionally. I tried Waze for a while before I got the 360, but I never posted anything because I won't interact with my phone while driving. Escort Live does have the added convenience of posting Ka band hits automatically. However, I've never seen a hit on either app where the cop was still there once I got there. Cops have figured out how these apps work, and have started to monitor the apps and move around frequently or once they're tagged.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I think I'm going to go with the max2 if the arrows on the 360 are really so slow to respond that they are useless. I like that the gps locks out falses after 3 detections, making the commute eventually quiet.

For those of you who mounted to your rear view mirror with a blendmount, would you happen to know which one you got? It's currently 1230am and I am laying in bed and too lazy to get out and take 30 seconds to look at my own mirror in the garage lol.

For those of you who used an alternative to blendmount, who did you go with and are you happy with what you got? Blendmount seems to be king, and judging by the price they charge for a mount, seems like they feel the same way.

Do you also remember if you bought the 9" or the 12" mirror taps?

If you bought the 9", how tight is the fit?

If you bought the 12", how much slack is there?

I just upgraded my Max 360 to the latest software release a few minutes ago. This release is supposed to improve the false alarm rejection and may effect the slow response on the arrows, i am not sure.

One other factor: the Max 360 has 2 antennas, front and rear. That should improve reception. I have been very happy with the range of the alerts and the false alarm rejection, the directional arrows are just a little laggy. I think this is a minor issue and I expect it to be fixed with software updates (I spoke to someone at Escort and they were trying to avoid the issue of an alert switching back and forth from front to rear. I have occasionally seen this on my V1).

Software and red light/speed camera updates over the net is a huge advantage of Escort products.

One other idea: you get a 30 day trial. Buy both and return one.

I got the 12". With a 9500ix and a mirror mount similar to the blendmount, there was not much slack. I don't think a 9" would have fit.
Searching the net for directions to connect it to the mirror wiring harness is how i found this forum. :)

Which mount did you get that is similar to the blendmount? I saw one for $35 which is less than half of a blendmount but I'd hate to find out later that I got what I paid for. Are you happy with your mount? How much was it?

The mount I have was made by these people: http://www.countryjoycrafts.com. Made of machined aluminum like the blendmount, but a little cheaper.

The mount I have is no longer made (it's just a big chunk of aluminum with no adjustments at all) The units made by country joy are now much more adjustable. I moved it from my 2006 Sonata to the 2015 Genesis with no issues--they both have a 23mm stem on the mirror.

If i had to do it over, this is what i would probably get:https://store.blendmount.com/blendmount-radar-detector-mount-for-escortbeltronicshyundaiid-hyu-002standard-2000r-series-p3175.aspx

Just put in a Max 360 in my 2016 Genny. MUCH quieter than my old Max2 and 9500XI.alerts Alerts well in city use with no false sensing. Usually run at Auto NoX. With Escort Live ap on Iphone they work well together.

Current setup is a hardwired V1 with AL Priority jammers. ALP system is great as well, you cant even notice the sensors with the design of the grill.

I went ahead and got a V1 with blendmount and dual head invisicord for the Bluetooth dongle. I felt the arrows for situational awareness was more useful to me over the gps of the max360, especially since the 360's arrows seem to be lethargic.

I read the V1 can be quite chatty though so I set it up how that guy on vortex radar recommends in euro mode and custom sweeps, tmf and junk fighter on. Going on a road trip this weekend to Vegas so we will see if it's too noisy to the point of having to return it for a 360.

I wish jammers aren't illegal in California

The die-hards with lots of cash use a V1 for the highway and an Escort in the city. The rest of us have to decide which to get.

I have a 9500ix that is increasingly less useful with false positives as more cars on the road have radar brakes and cruise. The latest 360 max is _supposed_ to be able to reject these.

Texas highways can be BIG, especially in the west. I've found the temptation to cruise at 90 in my car to be rather strong. A V1 would be indicated here.

Ordered a Blendmount for my 2016 Genesis with Ultimate. I used the photo on the website and ordered a -006. It was way to small to fit around the thick mirror support. I returned it and wired my V1 through the fuse box and put it on the left side of my dash with velcro. Blendmount refunded my money and said there is a "fattie" mod available for the 2016. Wish I had had it to start, but pleased with the V1 resting on the dash. Maybe slightly less sensitive since the mirror mount would have placed it higher.

Those of you running a V1 that have iPhones, there's an app just recently released called V1driver if you are interested in gps lockouts similar to yaV1 on the droids. Gives similar functionality as the max360, in theory at least.

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I have a situation which has recently sprung up and was looking for some guidance.

I have an older V1 [around 10-12 years old] in a 2015 Ultimate [purchased towards the end of 2014] which until 2-3 weeks ago was working flawlessly. I have never made any changes to the V1's configuration.

I was driving down I287 when all of a sudden, it chirped that it picked up something behind me. So, being the honorable person that I am, I slowed down to an acceptable speed yet the back arrow kept on lighting up periodically. So I guessed that I had a trooper following me and played it safe until I got off an exit.

However it kept on picking up something in the back even when I was in a totally deserted place.

A few days later when it was still doing the same thing, I unlatched it from it's mount and turned it around while holding it in my hand. Now the front arrow would keep on lighting up. So, my basic troubleshooting tells me that the V1 should be ok.

I understand that my V1 is an older model and, therefore, susceptible to ACC, lane departure, parking assist etc interferences. What confuses me is why would this happen all of a sudden after nearly 2.5 years of having no issues? This just happened out of the blue with no changes to anything whatsoever.

I would make the changes to the V1 or go the upgrade route if need be, but any light someone could shed would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all...

I don't know why your V1 just started having problems, mine has always had problems in my Genesis. I decided to get a Max360 to replace my V1 rather than upgrading it.

One thing that will help the V1 a little is turning off POP and X band.

Thank you Lobsenza.

I called up V1 to get a better understanding of what happened. It seems [or so I was told] that since my V1 is 10-12 years old, it's internals are still analog enough and after some time, it might need a re-calibration. So, I can send it in and get it re-calibrated for around $45-50 or turn it in and purchase an upgraded one.

I have read good things about the Max360 and would have no issues getting one of those as well. However, two things are of a concern:

1). The wifey does drive the car and is very happy with the location of the button to mute/lower the volume when it goes off. She might not like figuring out where the button is on the Max360 since it's on the top and would take some time getting used to.
2). I have always mounted mine up by the rear-view mirror on the driver's side [like Huddleston's pictures]. I see that the Max360 is larger. From your experience - and just asking for a guesstimate from you, do you think it would stick out a whole lot more especially since the Max360's suction cup is larger and requires a bit more room than the two for the V1? I understand it's all relative depending on where you install yours but just curious since you're one of the few people here who have had both.

Thank you,

JP

Why don't you do a 30 day trail on the Max360? You could even do the same trail on a new V1 and compare. You can get a rebate (I think it was $100) for turning in an old V1 for a Max360.

That is what I'm going to do. Get the Max360 first and see how it goes.

Thank you,

JP

I haven't tried the Max 360, but I do have an Escort 9500 and I will say you're spot-on with regards to the volume control for the V1. It's a knob, the only one on the front of the device. Turn it to turn down the volume (or turn the V1 off completely). It's as easy as eating banana pudding.
