In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi everyone,

Lately I noticed the side view mirrors are having a difficult time in dimming especially in slower moving traffic. I have noticed everytime I get stuck in night time traffic and truck behind me just blinds me through the side view mirrors. The rear view mirror works perfectly for dimming. They only seem to dim when I reach certain speed. Does anyone have any idea as to how these auto dimming works, should I go to the dealer about this issue?

Thanks.

As far as I know, the outside mirrors are linked to the interior mirror as regards the dimming function. If they are not dimming at the same time, you should have them checked by your dealer. There is a button on the interior mirror that switches the Dimming function on and off, but I thought it applied to all the mirrors, not just the outside, but it may be worth checking.

Did you tint the windows on your Genesis or is it just factory tint?

The tinting reduces the tinting of the mirrors because the light through the rear window effects the mirror dimming.

That's it exactly. The sensor for all three mirrors is in the windshield mounted rear view mirror. The tinting of the rear window reduces the amount of light that hits the sensor, which in turn causes the outside mirrors to dim less.

Let's see how long it will take the dealership to figure that out ...

I never have never tinted any windows on my cars, because ultimately the tint only makes little difference on the interior temperature of the car while reducing visibility at night.

Parking in the shade helps. Light colored interiors help. Ventilated seats help. Cracking windows helps. Sunroof tilting helps.

This gentleman has some actual data, I find this helpful in deciding what to do:
