  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm very disappointed...

I had a chance to look at the videos that outline the CP functionality. The consolation prize is that DIS systems can still make use of SIRI eyes free. While you don't get the visual interface, you can still make calls, send and receive texts, and play music pretty much the same way.

The biggest downside is not having Apple Maps and Navigation.
(I have AVN, so I know it's easy for me to say...)

Once I get the upgrade, it will be interesting to see if the Apple Navigation is worth it. I suspect that I'm mostly going to prefer the integrated NAV with the speed limit displays, and traffic information. I have used Apple Maps and Google Maps as a passenger, and they are pretty rudimentary. WAZE would be a whole different discussion. If I had Android, that would probably be worthwhile.

Couldn't disagree more. It's actually EXCELLENT customer service. They went back and provided an update for a car that is 2 years old when they had no requirements to do so. ZERO.

This wasn't listed as a feature when you bought the car. It's a BONUS that they provided it at all to any of us. They didn't have to go back to all these cars and update (not just the Genesis, but the others they added as well).

Do you work in IT? I do. We don't plan our systems around technology that we don't know is even going to be around in 5 years (or even 1 year). Whether you believe their excuse or not, it's probably valid.

The reason more companies don't do awesome stuff like this is because you always have the criers out there getting pissed at bonus not being enough for them. You have the ultimate... bigger screen, better system, more features and DIS. Lord forbid you don't get this too. Be happy with the car you bought that you loved when you bought it. I swear people feel way too entitled now-a-days. You don't deserve anything but what they promised when they sold you the car. How about seeing how awesome it is for car company to update back catalog model years with new technology when they have the ability?

My buddy bought a fully loaded 2016 Ford Explorer. It has Ford Sync 2 when Ford Sync 3 is now out on lesser cars. He knew that going in. He doesn't expect a hardware or software upgrade outside what he purchased.

My other friend just got a 2016 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. It has an incredibly weak ass electronics package inside it. He knew it going in. He doesn't have expectations that when they revamp of the Tundra comes out in 2017, that he will get a new car for free. Or new software. Or new tires.

I love you guys :grouphug:

I just wish you all weren't so hard on everything and everybody. This is a good company that went above and beyond, but was bound to not make everyone 100% happy. Let's show some respect... and enjoy our awesome cars.

/RANT

A most excellent rant, particularly the bolded bits.

About time somebody did that. Predictably, others are now complaining about you complaining about their complaining. :D

And if you look closely, I believe I did a little complaining about their complaining about my complaining about their complaining.

I can't believe that people are complaining that they don't have an app on their phone to use so that they have even MORE distractions from actually paying attention to the road and DRIVING their car. TOO many people being killed by DISTRACTED drivers.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Oh, you Crusty Old Shellback... :D

Can't we all just get along? :grouphug:

Not only am I upset with #Sarah, our Genesis

The fact that you have not only named your Genesis and given it a girl's name - but also prefaced that name with a pound sign - disqualifies you from ownership. Please turn in your keyflub.

Though this thread started out as a joke.... it has now also evolved into people bitching about AA/AP. Can we please PICK A THREAD already - and merge all this crappola into one giant, steaming pile of thread? It has now fragmented more than the "class" threads. Arrrgg.

What do you mean "started"? It still is!

I think it should be a sticky. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

We Gen 1 owners don't have these silly problems. Most of us have a workable Nav system on the dash and another one on our smartphones. Some of us even have a third navigation option with Bluelink. I guess you Gen 2 guys need four navigation options? Whatever happened to paper maps? I'm going to cry because they are not used much anymore.

One more complaint. I am very disappointed at the title of this thread

G1 owners are already living in the past, so not surprising some don't seem understand the benefits of new technology that far better integrates the power of smartphones into their cars... and for things beyond just navigation...

Another person that doesn't get it. AA and Carplay better integrate your phone into your car to provide for LESS distraction...

Hard to imagine how you even manage to drive your cars, what with having to stick your feet through the floor boards and run. Don't you know that driving these days is all about the apps? Luddite! You just don't get it! Lol!

It's a hash tag you goober. Only applies if you use Instagram however. Plus #Sarah, sounds alot better than, oh I don't know...#Joe.

"Hey guys, let's all go for a ride in #Joe, he's responsive, packing a big 20 incher, likes to flex his muscles infront of Camrys and Hondas. While we're at it, let's all get spray tans and stick our head out of #Joe #boypower #joethegenesisrules #youcantsitwithus" - see how awkward this sounds?

VS

"Hey guys, let's all go for a ride with #sarah. She's silky smooth, loud when you start her up, but quiets down once you know what she's capable of. She looks so sexy, never missing leg day as you can clearly see. She's fast to come, but not too fast to where you can't enjoy her. She's the kind of girl that your friend in a Mercedes, BMW, or Audi would snap their neck to get a glimpse of. She's the kind of girl you would take home to meet the family, as she can look like your girl next door, but under the sheets...she's a wild animal, packing 420 all day everyday." - let it soak.

Plus naming your car adds in a lifetime bond, only car guys can relate.

I guess we should be thankful that summa youz guys have any time left at all just to drive your cars.

Hey... before this thread gets locked... there is one important point of business.

I nominate the best quote from this thread:

srobak for "merge all this crappola into one giant, steaming pile of thread"

:D :D :D

My work is done here!

Another person that doesn't get it. AA and Carplay better integrate your phone into your car to provide for LESS distraction...

Nope, you don't get it.

Unlike you, I do not let a small phone run my world. I'm not enamored by it and it's functions. Rather than sit behind a keyboard at a computer surfing the web, or doing the same on a phone, looking at adventures, I go out and do them. Places I go are usually not on a app on a phone, and some areas don't even have cell phone service.

Unlike you, I grew up in a time when a phone had a cord and was in your house, or in a box at the corner 7-11 and cost 10 cents to make a call. We learned how to survive on our own without technology. We knew what a map and compass was and how to read it to get where we wanted to go.

Unlike you, I learned how to build things with my hands and some basic tools, while you will go to the corner store and just buy what's there, or best case, down load a program from your phone and plug it into your CNC machine and hit the button, and be satisfied with whatever comes out. Me on the other hand enjoy looking at the drawings, maybe print a few out for reference, then modify it to meet my needs and build it with my own hands.

I work with high end technology every day, from weapons grade laser systems, high power radar systems, remote controlled systems, etc, so yes I get it. But I also know how to sit in a car and enjoy the ride without having to have a bunch of gadgets running. I have 4 vehicles in my stable, 3 of which are newer and computer controlled with a bunch of gadgets, the last, a '73 K5 Blazer, is the one I enjoy driving most of the time. Simple and raw. Only "computer" in the car is the newer stereo I installed.

I actually feel sorry for your generation who doesn't seem to know how to function without technology. There's a whole big old world to discover out there that can't be done sitting on a computer, or looking at an app on a phone.

Now to the point of this thread, which was stated earlier, I'm disappointed that there are several threads now of people complaining about how they bought a car that doesn't have the technology in it that they wanted, even though said technology was never advertised to be available in said vehicle. Seems they bought the wrong vehicle.

I'm also disappointed that my vehicle is such a blast to drive, even without all of the technology that others are complaining about not having. :)

It's a hash tag you goober.

I had my first publicly accessible email account in 1987. This predates even IRC - which is where the # was first implemented for common users, outside of coding or UNIX shell prompts in order to identify different chat channels. In IRC it was called "hash symbol" or simply - "pound".

In the coding world - it has been used to identify non-processed lines of comments contained within the code - but in some languages has been used to call out executable sub-process or defining commands - and was also called "hash" or "pound".

Only applies if you use Instagram however. Plus #Sarah, sounds alot better than, oh I don't know...#Joe.

Actually Twitter first began using it in 2007. It didn't get widespread usage by Twitter until 2009 and then was picked up in 2011 by Instagram. :)

However I agree - I do like the sound of "pound Sarah". :D

I have other info regarding the naming of vehicles and the explanation of them... but I will leave that for another time. :)

srobak,
Sometimes you have to educate these young fellows. ;)

It was also called a pound sign all the way back to the first push button telephones of the '70's. :)
