  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi guys,

I am purchasing insurance (at last!!) so that I can drive the beautiful Genny.
I saw somewhere that Hyundai offers Roadside assistance for few years but not sure where I saw it. Also, my Amex credit card offers roadside assistance but I have never used it.

I was just wondering if it is okay to decline it from the insurance , not that it costs much but still...

Also, what do you guys think about rental reimbursement insurance?

I think you need full coverage if the car is not paid off. Buy what coverage you can afford. I would buy gap as well at least for the first year. I think that if You wreck the car you will pay for towing. If the car breaks down to a mechanical fault, then Hyundai will tow for free which then you can call Hyundai's road side assistance.

You should be required to get full coverage if financing the car. The requirements can vary from state to state and financial institute to financial institute.

Example from my state: I am required to have the 25/50/25 minimum coverage, liability, collision, and comp. I have not checked if the loan holder for my Genesis has their own specific requirements, but BMW financial required a max of $1000 collision deductible for their financing.

I don't know of anywhere that required you to have roadside on your insurance, so if you have good roadside coverage through your CC or Hyundai, I wouldn't waste the money on roadside with your insurance company, no matter how cheap.

Another thing to consider: Glass coverage. Geico offers NO special glass coverage. If you get a cracked windshield(which is going to be $800+ to replace if you have auto wipers and all that), you either foot the bill 100%, or pay whatever your comp deductible is. Travelers insurance offered free chip repair and $50 replacement deductibles, AND their rates ended up being lower than Geico for me.

I definitely suggest shopping around a lot. I think I checked 10+ different companies before settling on a provider.

Thanks guys! I have taken collision and comprehensive insurance. The only thing I was not too sure was the Roadside Assistance but I took it finally ($5 for 6 months after negotiation!).

I don't understand. If your credit card includes roadside assistance and Hyundai includes roadside assistance, why did you get it a third time from your insurance company?

Roadside assistance has nothing to do with liability insurance, and is not required by any lending institution or governmental agency.

My only experience with it was when driving a Hertz rental car. I called the company that Hertz used for roadside assistance (I think they use the same roadside assistance service as many other companies) when I got a flat tire. After three hours and multiple phone calls, they never came, so I changed the flat myself.

4 years ago the battery of my car died but I was in my house and was not in a hurry and instead of jumping the battery myself decided to use Hyunday Roadside Assistance to see how long it took to get the assistance. After three different phone calls and 2 hours waiting I got the service done. Not an excellent service but AAA takes longer than that.
