  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New Purchase

I have had my car since Sept 2014 and my sunroof does not rattle.

Okay, thanks again guys. Picked up the car and got it mostly set up the way I like. I did run into an issue with my phone and I'm going to start a separate thread. Truly appreciate all the input and look forward to being on the forum for a while :)

This is very subjective but I find my car runs better on premium as reflected by the mileage. I doubt you’ll have a problem with the sunroof as this was a well known problem which hasn’t appeared much on the later model posts. Mine has never exhibited this problem and was an early production model. In case it does come up the more permanent correction was replacement of the rubber seal. Enjoy your ride it’s a great car.

Mine was a later build and exhibits the issue, I don't know if there's any rhyme or reason to who's affected. Other than that it seems to be pretty widespread. OP, the issue is visible on mine, look at the center seal (that runs side to side across the middle of the pano roof) and make sure the seal isn't pulling away/ripped like this

I would press for the MAP upgrade to version 9.5 or 10. Not so much for the MAP itself.... there is a significant improvement to the Voice Recognition function. Press for this. It makes the NAV and Phone functions much better.

Ended up with version 8.7 (I got everything else I asked for and they bent over backwards, so I didn't want to be greedy). In your opinion, is it worth the 200 for me to upgrade to v10?

Also, I started another thread but got no response, so I'll take the liberty of asking here: my Galaxy S7 Edge pairs with the car without issue, but when it tries to download the phonebook the download fails and the bluetooth cuts off and on, continually trying to download and then disconnecting/reconnecting. I've disabled data sharing in the phone which eliminated the disconnects, but of course the phonebook has not transferred and every time the car starts I get a message saying the phonebook download failed and I have to respond. Annoying.

The dealer and I tried pretty much everything we could think of with no success. I tried the Bluetooth Transfer app, but that can't connect with the car.

Any thoughts? BTW - I'm pretty technical when it comes to technology so really - I've tried a lot of different things :)

I presume you are running marshmallow? If that's the case, then the problem could be the phone is too nice. :P What happens when you use the USB cable?

I haven't used the usb cable. I use that for my iPod.

This is just a guess:
Are you running marshmallow? If you are, I/O has been very optimized and your phone's bluetooth may be too "fast" for the Genesis head unit. The contacts should transfer fine using a USB cable. After that, the USB cable shouldn't be necessary and the bluetooth can take care of contact updates and calls.

I have a Galaxy S7 Edge from AT&T and have no trouble connecting it up for phone book or bluetooth audio streaming through Pandora. Can't help much for resolving the issue though.

I just got a Galaxy S4, my first smartphone, and was having a similar problem with the contact download failing and the Bluetooth turning on and off while the car was trying to re-download the contacts. My S4 was also dinging at me while this was going on, but I didn't have the phone where I could get to it quickly.

I re-checked all my Bluetooth settings on my phone and on the car and all seemed to be set right. It appears that when the car was trying to download the contacts update it was asking the phone for permission. When I finally tried it again while sitting still and with my phone where I could reach it, I saw that the car was asking for permission to download the contacts and I needed to select the "Don't ask again" button, then the OK to download. Now it appears to be working OK.

So you might want to be sure that you have the Bluetooth pop-up turned on on your phone, then watch for it after you have started the car. Make sure to select the "Don't ask again" button and then OK the download.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. Will try it as son as I get in my car.

Thanks, but I had the phone in my hand and allowed the transfer each time - that's not the issue.

BTW - I tried USB today and it seems the car cannot access the contacts. I had no problem syncing the same phone with my Infiniti, so I'm not quite sure why there is an issue - but there is.

Are you running Android marshmallow (latest version of Android)? Do you have Tor installed? Is it rooted?

Someone on this site is using a rooted phone and had to install an app that spoofed itself as not rooted in order to work with the Genesis headunit. I think it was in the Android auto thread.

Latest release of Android OS and the phone is not rooted. Thanks for responding though..

Of course, you've also deleted the pairing from both the car and the phone, rebooted the phone, and started fresh, correct?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
If you're lucky enough to have 2 dealers in your area, check out each for which has the best service team (no two are alike). I bought the care from one and have consistently got better service from the other......and both have the same ownership....go figure!

Multiple times :(

OK ... how about swing by the dealer and see if you can pair and download contacts to another genesis?

Thought of that the day I got the car. Instead, the salesman tried pairing his phone with my car and downloading his contacts and it worked fine. And as I said, my phone had no problem with my Q50. I don't disagree that your suggestion has merit, it's just that I have to believe there's something I can do to get this to work with my phone and car.

EDIT: BTW, just tried starting the phone in safe mode and transferring contacts - same result. So apparently it isn't an app on the phone that is interfering with the process.
