  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yesterday our new (to us) Genesis stalled in traffic going down a slight grade at about 25 mph. We have had her for about 90 days and put 4000 miles on her.
I discovered a downside to the push button start procedure. Had to pull off the road onto a shoulder of a one way free way exit facing the oncoming traffic, while I still had enough momentum while muscling the steering and brakes without power assist.

Once we were stopped and had put the car in park and applied the brake she started as normal. As you might expect departing the location was tricky and scary for all concerned.

Has anyone experienced a similar stall while moving?

To date we have been delighted with our Genesis, great gas mileage and amenities, we have both the Premium and Tech Packages. The handling as has been noted by others is still not in the league of other more premium vehicles but is acceptable.

I will be looking for a 2014 R-Spec in a year or so. I don't find the 2nd Gen interiors as nice as those of the first gen and having two cars with dissimilar but highly complex controls is bit of a challenge to deal with.

I would appreciate hearing of any similar incidents and their resolution, as this car was purchased specifically to deal with commuting into the DC metro area. I had my 1998 Jaguar XJ 8 die in the middle of 495 rush hour, that was an experience I never want to repeat.

Cheers all

I've not read about too many stalling issues with the Genesis. I would check your battery cables and make absolutely certain they are clean and tight. I once had a loose negative cable on a pickup that caused all kinds of odd issues including stalling.

Thanks for the suggestion, the car was equipped with a new battery just before we purchased it. it maybe insufficiently tight. Will check and update the thread.

There were a couple of us that experienced a similar issue on rare occasion. I think I've had it happen twice since I've owned mine in 4 years, which I bought new. It usually seems to involve slow speeds, and frequently a right hand turn, like as when turning into a parking lot. Nobody has put a finger on exactly why it happens, but some suggested maybe it has to do with over-filling the gas tank on a hot day. At least with me, after coasting or braking to a stop and putting in park, it starts right back up, like nothing was ever wrong.

Your account fits I had just completed a slow right hand turn into traffic when it died.

The battery cables are tight and clean
