Will Never Buy Another Hyundai!

Gotta luv our members, right?! :grouphug:

Re: Will Nevet Buy Another Hyundai!

Sad story OP, I agree maybe not a super prudent decision but again, if Hyundai said they fixed an issue, one would assume it was good to go.

In any event, I think most of us can agree that folks that sell/service the Genesis need a thorough retraining in terms of service. The unwillingness to fix issues, and lack of ability to pinpoint and diagnose problems in an expedient manner, will make one-time customers out of many.

Re: Will Nevet Buy Another Hyundai!

Wasnt, a quick follow up... I took your suggestion and emailed Mr. Zuchowski, and you were right. Amazingly, I had an email back in less than two hours. Shortly after that, I got a call from the district manager. They are installing the rotors right now, and correcting all of the other issues. I can't thank you enough for the suggestion. I'm completely impresses with Mr. Zuchowski and I'm going to delete this thread shortly because after my experience with him, I will buy another Hyundai.

Yeah, he is a really good guy. Copied me on all the emails as well so I could see his no BS attitude about getting my issue fixed. Made me really like Hyundai. I don't want to blame a brand for a single bad outcome over so many good ones.

This is good, goodjob @wasnt, you brought him back to us lol!

Re: Will Nevet Buy Another Hyundai!

While I've only had my Genesis for a couple of months, but have owned Hyundais since 2010 (Elantra, then Sonata Ltd with neither never having been to the dealer after purchase) I was impressed with what I observed while I waited in the Customer vehicle service drop off area for my first oil change and how my particular experience went. This is somewhat of a superficial assessment and in general am very skeptical of dealerships in general I definitely plan to go back for my next service. The luxury level vehicle service at Hyundai might not be at the level of the much more established ones at MB, Lexus, Audi, etc., but I can see it getting there which a reasonable number of years.

I am happy to hear that you got quick action. I am wondering how the rotors that were on back-order are now available.

Re: Will Nevet Buy Another Hyundai!

Yea, I would never buy a car that had issues period. No car being new should have issues. I would look for another on the lot that was perfect. Your mistake there. But Hyundai should be able to fix it, but it seems they have incompetent dealers.

Re: Will Nevet Buy Another Hyundai!

I understand your frustrations. I will never buy another Mazda, Nissan, or Mercedes. List of problems and issues too long and inappropriate to discuss here.

The OP's experience illustrates the absolute importance of customer service FOLLOWING the sale if you want brand loyalty. Most of us understand that cars and trucks have become incredibly complicated bits of machinery and electronics. It's rather miraculous that more things don't go wrong. It's how your treated when they do which makes all the difference in the world.

Based on very negative service experiences with various issues on a new truck several years ago, I'll never in my lifetime even vaguely consider any GM product. On the other hand, back in the 90's, I saw Honda go above and beyond what one would normally expect. We don't currently own one, but we bought more of them (and recommended them to friends) after being treated so well. Same with our local Nissan dealer. Outstanding service at all levels = my wife getting a new Rogue this year.

Never is a long time.

It's usually just one person screwing up and unwilling to admit their mistake that makes you hate your car. No reason the brand should carry the load for such a universal human failing. Don't you guys have kids?

People aren't reading the entire thread. His issues are being worked on and he has changed his mind on Hyundai. ;)

Bingo!

I had problems with a Sonata here in the UK. The dealer tried to fob me off. I didn't understand why the dealer did not help me more to get this problem resolved. Anyway, I eventually emailed the CEO of Hyundai UK, and voilà, they changed the car. I never used that dealer again.

I have had 3 previous Hyundai's totalling 20 years driving experience. They always started, never broke down and passed the government safety test (MOT) first time/ each time. Because of that I am still a fan and will continue to buy them if my Genesis treats me the same.

Nice to see that from those higher up the corporate food chain.

It wasn't a one person thing with the new Chevy truck I factory ordered. It was an institutional approach that made it nearly impossible to take the issues that the dealer service manager would not adequately address up the next level to the regional service supervisor. On top of that, I've concluded that GM design and engineering simply hasn't kept up with with Ford or the Japanese/Korean brands.

These problems can happen with any plate, but some do seem to be more frequent. I had an Oldsmobile in the 90s with sport suspension, an 88 v6. Everybody liked riding in the car and it had a nice user interface, but right after the third year was over (that is, the warranty ended) I was having major problems every six months. I never bought another Olds or GM. My uncle bought a Chevy in the 80s and it was a lemon right off the floor. He never bought another car, but he swore he would never buy another Chevy.

Ford was headed in that direction in the late 70s. I had to get two rental cars in the late 70s - early 80s. One was a Futura the other an Escort. The Futura was awful, the Escort a little better. But Ford tried to improve their product and largely succeeded. If I had not bought my Genesis I might have bought another Ford product.

It's fair to say that if you have a bad dealer you won't buy again. I've had enough problems to say that. But it is nice to hear when a dealer or manufacturer steps up to plate to take responsibility.

J.D. Powers report about 2 days ago rated Kia and Hyundai at/near the top on reliability.

Mercedes, Audi, Cadillac, etc are loaded w/gadgets - go figure

Some of you guys really hold a grudge...

Indeed. Makes just as much sense as someone claiming they will never buy another Hyundai because their 1980 Pony was a POS. After all, they paid their hard-earned money too.

It is unfortunate that you've missed my point entirely. Companies have cultures. GM fell into a junk culture in the 60s (think new Vega cars that rust in the showroom). and it got worse until their bankruptcy in 2008. There are signs that they may have fixed some of their problems - we'll see. Ford was in a decline in the 70s and early 80s, but they decided something had to be done. The Taurus was the beginning of significant improvement in the companies products. They were the only American based company that did not go under. GM and Chrysler needed Government help of various forms to continue operations, and the number of empty GM and Chrysler showrooms bears testimony to my point.

I did not buy my Hyundai because I was mad at Ford (I took a close look at the Taurus SHO), and I looked at what Cadillac had to offer. For the combination of performance, quality and price Hyundai won hands down (and Kia was a close second but doesn't have anything comparable to the Genesis AWD, at least not yet).

Oh, yes...one other point. In the early 90's Hyundai was a laughing stock and Kia was not even on the charts. I don't hear too many people poking fun at Hyundai now.

Bought a 2008 Ford Taurus for trips - Ok for a about a year - then developed what they call "sudden acceleration syndrome". Most often when approaching an intersection (the worst time) the engine would whip up to maybe 3=>4 thousand rpm. Made for some exciting driving.

Then one of the little "air handler" motors behind the dash went out (thousand dollar repair job).

How did I solve all that? Traded for the '15 Genesis V8 - all problems gone.
