  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am trying to figure out if there is a max size you can have for your USB stick. That or is there a version or speed requirment?

I purchased a 34GB small USB drive on amazon and it will not work in my Genesis. I have an older 7GB stick type that will - tested both with the same data and one works (7GB) the other (32GB) does not.

Before I go but a different USB stick I wanted to see if anybody knew if there were size or speed or version (2.0 vs 3.0) limitations for the genesis??

I will go on a limb and say that it only takes usb 2.0, it is still not as advanced for 3.0

Just for your information.

I have a 32gb SanDisk Cruzer Glide usb2.0 that works great.

Make sure it's formatted "Fat 32".

I have a 128 GB USB 3.0 stick and it works just fine. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. Like Ernie3647 posted above, make sure it's formatted as FAT32.

Assuming you use Windows:

To check the filesystem:
  • Connect the drive to your computer.
  • Open File Explorer.
  • Right-click on the drive and select Properties.
  • The file system will be displayed between the drive name and the used/free space. If it says NTFS or anything else, you'll need to reformat it as FAT32. If it says FAT32, you could still try reformatting it.

To reformat as FAT32:
  • Back up any files you have on the drive, as formatting will erase all data.
  • Right-click on the drive in File Explorer.
  • Select Format.
  • Under File System, select FAT32 (other options are NTFS and exFat).
  • Click Start to begin formatting.

Yeah my default is FAT32 so I am really not sure why this drive will not work in my car but works fine on my laptop.

The item I purchased1;

SanDisk Ultra Fit 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ43-064G-GAM46) [Newest Version]

IT was actually a 64GB. My sugesstion is stay away from this one for the Genesis as it does not seem to work.

Mine is a SanDisk Ultra 64 GB (not 128 GB like I posted earlier), but it's the full-size version instead of the smaller Fit. Mine fits in the console with the 3 ft charging cord for my phone, but just barely. Here's a link to the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P8XQPY4/ref=twister_B00LGCEX7C?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Some users have also noticed that they can only read a certain number of songs (there's a thread around here somewhere). I have around 4,000 songs and I haven't encountered any that I can't read. I don't know if this is dependent on the drive or caused by something else.

Edit: I also have an Ultimate with the 9.2 inch screen and DIS knob. The hardware and software are different enough that it may make a difference.

I have that very same USB Flash drive in my 2013 R-Spec. It works great! But I only have about 40GB of music on it now.

what is the biggest USB drive used for music in the GV80. I have used 128GB but it doesn't seem to read everything properly
