If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. As anyone found a trunk opening system for the sedan? I was surprised that the trunk on the 2013 with premium package does not raise automatically when the trunk is opened.

I have been wanting to add this functionality for a while now. There are aftermarket kits available but it is a custom job. The G2 sedans came with auto trunk open and close but not sure if it could be adapted for the G1 or not.

Did any other countries get auto open/close trunks on the G1 as an option?

Don't be cranky, Sarge. If you have a '13 Genesis it is First Generation. 2G is '15 & '16.

Yes. When I want the trunk lid opened, I send a signal from my brain to my hand to lift the trunk lid. I has worked every time so far.

Occasionally, my hands are full, and I have to use my elbows, but the trunk lid is easy to lift once opened, so no problem.

I automatically close it the same way (my brain sends a signal to my hands or elbows).

It seems to me that fabricating a stronger spring in the trunk hinge would allow it to pop open. As for the close feature, you may need to use Mark_888's Brian and muscle power solution.

And how, exactly, do you first unlock the trunk if your hands and full? With the power/auto trunk, I just have to stand behind it for 3 seconds and it unlocks and opens. A button press then closes it (no slamming required) and can lock the vehicle. I can also open and close the trunk from inside the car. While you appear to not appreciate it or want to acknowledge it's value, it's actually a very convenient feature...

Only takes one finger to open the trunk.

Standing behind the trunk for 3 seconds and it automatically opens? No thanks, I would become a paranoid schizophrenic if I had that feature, always wondering if my trunk is locked or unlocked.

My G1 trunk doesn't need to be slammed (and doesn't like to be slammed). Once I get moving even slightly in downward direction (with my elbow or whatever) it always goes down and closes tight.

So you can unlock the trunk and open it with one finger when both of your hands are full? Sure...

The car emits electronic beeps and flashes lights to let you know it's going to open the trunk unless you step away so no reason to be paranoid unless you are deaf and/or blind.

Can you lock the vehicle by pushing the trunk closed with your elbow? I can close my trunk and lock the car with a single, simple button press while my key fob sits in my pocket.

Honesty, if you have never experienced it, you can't really have a meaningful opinion on how useful of a feature it is...

Yep, just need the tip of my finger, which is usually available even if hands are full. Press up on the button under the lip of the trunk (with keyfob in pocket).

Still don't like that idea.

While I have my arms full of stuff, I can use my elbow to slowly start the trunk down, and it falls by itself and closes every time. I don't think the trunk lid closes quite that easy on G2. I do have to lock the car with the driver door button, or keyfob.

I think I will be OK without it.

I don't know how some folks would have survived in the olden days when we had to open the trunk from the outside with a key. URK! Sometimes we even had to put a bag, or a suitcase, down on the ground to get our keys out. AWK!

People used to get around with horse and buggy too - yet you drive a Genesis! It's called progress! The auto power/trunk is not needed, but it is a really convenient feature - get over It!

That is not convenient or even possible, depending on what you are carrying. Let's see you try that while carrying two 24 packs of water or 2 cases of beer. I suspect it's also a good way to scratch/mar the rear deck lid with what you are carrying or drop your cargo (again, depending what you are carrying).

Ok - but many people do and would like it if they experienced it

I wouldn't know as the button closes and locks it = WAY easier! Also, if the trunk is fully open, how do you use your elbow to push it closed. Are you a giant? I'm 6 foot and my elbow is not high enough to conveniently reach the top of the extended trunk lid to be able to push it down?

I think I will be OK without it.

No one said you wouldn't be. It's a great convenience feature - not a mandatory feature like a steering wheel (while they still include those in cars ;)).

When I leave Costco with all that much stuff, the shopping basket is next to the car. I don't have that problem you describe.

Only 6'1". I usually do it from the side of the trunk, not the back. Although I have occasionally done it from the back pushing down near the license plate. Once I get the trunk moving down even slightly, it always closes on its own. The G1 trunk apparently closes much easier than G2.

I am sure that it is a very nice feature for many, who get eternal and everlasting satisfaction from it. But never having to worry about whether my trunk is locked is more important to me.

Now I know why the batteries in the G2 keyfobs don't last very long. Another negative for me.

BTW, I don't like sunroofs either, and I have had several.

You would if you did not have shopping cart. I just went to the store this evening to get bottled water for a barbecue tomorrow. I like to stay fit, so no cart for me (plus I try to avoid carts whenever possible, as there is usually no good place to put them after I'm done and I hate to leave them as they might roll into someone else's car).

I walked out to the car with two 24 packs of 16 oz water bottles in my hands. There is no way I could have opened the trunk open without putting the water bottles down. However, with the auto/power trunk I just stood close behind the car - the trunk popped open - I put the water in - and then pushed the button and the trunk closed as I walked around to get in the car. Works wonderfully and is a definite advantage over no auto trunk in situation like that!

I would not know as I never have to do that - just push a button and it closes - and I can even open and close it from inside the car - very convenient!

Why would the auto trunk make one worry about whether their is locked? It only opens if you stand close behind it alerts you with a series of beeps and light flashes to let you know it is going to open. If you don't want it to open, you step away. You are flagging a concern that does not actually exist - again, unless you are blind/deaf.

Also, if you are that concerned about this auto opening, you can turn it off. However, you still retain the ability to open/close the trunk from inside the car and close the trunk and lock the car with a single button press from outside the car. It's quite versatile...

Also, when you push your trunk closed, you just know it is closed - not locked. You then either have to walk around and lock your car at the door handle or pull out your fob and press the lock button. Meanwhile I can close the trunk AND lock the car with one button press on the trunk lid...

Now I know why the batteries in the G2 keyfobs don't last very long. Another negative for me.

??? The auto trunk has nothing to do with the fob battery! Like the door unlock and mirror unfold/puddle lamps, the car detects the fob and reacts to it - the fob is not sending out a special signal for the trunk so there is no impact on fob battery life associated with the auto trunk.

BTW, I don't like sunroofs either, and I have had several.

OK - that's your prerogative. Many people do like them. I find that the panoramic roof in the Genesis really opens up and brightens the interior of the car, even when just the sunshade is open. I personally like these roofs as long as they don't make noise - I did not like my 2015's sunroof - but Hyundai addressed that for me.

It seems to me that fabricating a stronger spring in the trunk hinge would allow it to pop open. As for the close feature, you may need to use Mark_888's Brian and muscle power solution.

Even simpler, replace the trunk lift strut with one with higher force.

This is how it is in my W211 E350, the lift struts are tucked away and are attached to covered hinges connecting to the trunk lid. The lift struts are rated for much more than what the lid actually weighs, so when you hit the release button, it flies open to full position.

Sedan Automatic trunk opening, it does exist

Self opening trunk was an option on some BH models overseas. See this video sent to me by Muhammed a fellow member of the Hyundai Genesis Sedan Owners Group Facebook page. Lives in Iraq and his car has the upgraded taillights which means it is in the 12-14' range. Have not yet looked into finding the part numbers for this or, more important, look to see if we even have the connectors on the harness to add this option.

Can be opened and closed from inside the car as well by pushing the trunk pop button instead of pulling it. Funny that the button inside of the trunk to close it is shaped like a car with the trunk open.
