  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When I had my Infiniti G37, I ordered a under engine kit that had a nice removable piece so you could get to the filter easily. Held in place by a couple of tabs and a 10mm bolt. Boy, we need someone to design a front fairing piece that has the same feature. Would make oil changes a snap using that and an evacuator.

meh, you can get to the filter very easily from the top on the 3.8s, not even necessary to get under the car.

He thinks he needs to put a torque wrench on the plastic oil filter cap (which I personally disagree about) and not enough room to do that.

I removed the front panel and loosened and re-tightened my filter because I was getting some seepage after my oil change. With the panel off I was able to put a torque wrench on it( 35nm). I feel much better now, even though my torque wrench was calibrated 35 years ago!!!.

Much easier to drive it up on my ramps and drop the fairing. I ordered a bag of plastic push pins ( thanks Midnight Sun) to make it easier to put back in. You can re-use the old pins a couple of times, then they tend to start breaking.

Took me probably 5 minutes to take the front panel off and 10 minutes to put it back on.

In looking at an earlier posting illustrating an oil change, I cannot understand why Hyundai failed to provide access ports in the lower fairing that would allow access to the drain plug and filter. My '09 Genesis had an access port for the oil pan and a top-mounted filter that made oil changes very easy. The idea of removing 30 some 10 mm bolts and stupid, flimsy plastic pins is nuts. I've yet to do my first oil change, but intend to modify the lower pan with two access plates before re-installing it. I have no intentions of repeating this tedious process every 8,000 miles. It appears this entire designed was intended to provide job security to those working in Hyundai service departments. Just removing and reinstalling the lower pan provides an hour of labor and the chance that it will be missing half of its fasteners with every oil change. One of the very few stupid things coming out of Korea.

All of your complaints are well justified.

1. The so-called "cartridge system" fancied by Hyundai is a recipe for trouble. And, oddly enough, there is no cartridge involved.

2. The V8 oil/filter change is as bad or worse. Tedious is the word for it. Which is precisely why mechanics screw it up royally.

3. I use a Mity-Vac to suction the oil out - this eliminates the need to remove the mid-chassis underpanel - as well as the oil pan plug and washer.

4. And, I toss the old plastic push -pins and replace with new ones from Ebay (listing No. 371222529360).
