Thinking about a Genesis coming from an Audi S4

Currently own a 2014 Audi S4 with a stage 2 setup. I know the Genesis wont come close to the Audi performance and I am ok with that, just wanted to get that out there first. I am looking at the V6 version only.

We had a 2nd kid last year and finding the S4 is getting really tight. While this is not my family primary car, wife has a Infiniti QX60, we do still use it from time to time and when we do its pretty tight inside. I drive 80 miles round trip for work each day and the Audi is getting about 25 mpg on most weeks but it takes premium gas which is on average 30% more than regular. The Audi maintenance is starting to get to me also. I have 34k miles and replaced tires at 14k miles and going to need another set in a few months, which is about $1,200)

My goal is to lease, save some money on monthly payment, fuel, insurance and yearly maintenance cost.

I am looking at a 2016 3.8 RWD Ultimate, $50,600 MSRP. My local dealership has one left in stock with about 10 lower trim ones. I have been looking at the least numbers and it seems I should be able to lease its 36/15 for about $450 a month right now.

Just looking for some input from people who actually own a Genesis and of course anyone who came from a Audi to it.

I didn't come from an Audi, but I did come from a number of high-end cars (3 Lexus LS 400's, Jaguar VandenPlas, Infiniti G37 & Q50, and a bunch of Lincolns & Caddys early on). I purchased a V6 Ultimate AWD 2 months ago. I'm delighted.

I'm guessing you've taken a test drive. If not, do so - the car is as good as it seems during the test drive. And you're right, I'm also coming from quicker cars but 311 Hp is fine. You won't win any races, but you won't have to worry about being able to accelerate quickly when necessary.

Very comfortable, great technology, and outstanding value. I can't tell you whether or not you'll be as pleased as I am - nobody will know that other than you. But I'd be surprised if you're not

Keep in mind that while it is a relatively large car, it's really a 4 seater as the middle back is not really much of a seat (and quite uncomfortable to sit on). With 2 kids, an SUV (or van) would be a better choice (getting a kid in and out of a car seat or carrier will be tight with the door opening and low roof line in the back seat) - unless you already have one of those too and are just looking for a bigger sedan.

My wife has a Infiniti QX60 which is what we normally use so I would just be looking for a larger sedan. My S4 can barely fit my golf clubs in the trunk and with a car seat in the back I have to put the passenger seat way up.

Don't get me wrong I would prefer a loaded A6 or S6 but terrible lease rates have soured me on Audi. Even though I love my S4.

If you work 5 days a week then 15/36 lease is not an option, in less than 2 years you will reach the limited allowed miles.

Elderan, first of all welcome. A couple of points:

• The Genesis is definitely a larger car, bigger than an A6 even
• You will definitely save money on fuel so long as you don't overcompensate for the lower power and torque by being more aggressive on the throttle
• 50K is too much for this car right now considering Hyundai is trying to clear them out in preparation for the new brand launch
• Agree with someone else who mentioned the mileage and the lease. 80 miles per day equates to about 20K a year mileage?

So I went and drove a 3.8 RWD Ultimate today. Actually they let me take it home for the night to get a better idea if I like it or not. We talked some numbers and here is what they are out right now.

Any thoughts on this price?

To answer a few questions

90% of my driving his highway with little to no traffic. Almost all of the time is with cruise control on.

I travel about 20% of the year for my job so normally come in at 17k or so miles a year. However over the next two years my travel will be going up some and I expect reduced mileage. Also my wife does not work so if needed I can drive her car some to reduce mileage. Also I could consider buying 10k extra miles which are .15 each up front.

Steering wheel feels really weird compared to the S4. Suspension is very loose compared to my S4. Also the transmission is not even close in response to my S4. I really expected all of these things. I know it is the same size in the front but with the wagon portion, much roomier for cargo. Not the same performance as the S4 but definitely equivalent to the Genesis.

I had a 2007 Infiniti G35s prior to my 2015 3.8 Ultimate. I traded it in as I was tired of the horrible gas mileage and small size. I really like the Genesis. It is comfortable, a good size, looks great and has good technology. It is also quite roomy. All that said, I DO miss the performance of the G35.
I've not owned an S4 but am very familiar with it. In my opinion, I would look for something that more closely matches the S4, just bigger. What about the Allroad? The allroad back seats are actually smaller than the S4. Yes the trunk space is larger but I already have issues with the car seat in the back. Please a fully loaded Allroad is nearly 50k now and the lease on one would be near 700 a month.

That is great price. Like I said, the 3.8 Ultimate is wonderful and you shouldn't be disappointed. It will (you already know this) be noticeably slower than the S4 but not a dog by any stretch of the imagination. On the highway, it is great (especially with the smart cruise and lane-keeping). And the trunk is quite large.

Stage 2 Audi S4, huh?! That must be a LOT of fun. I had a stage 3 2000 at one point and that was a heck of a car.

I love my S4 so it is not something I am looking forward to getting rid of, one of the reasons I am taking my time. But I am going to save a ton of money on the genesis compared to my S4 so that is one big benefit. I am still debating going to look at the Infiniti Q50 as well before making my final decision. The Q50 has some really nice lease specials right now as well.
