Parking sensor acting weird

I was driving (2012 Rspec) home on the highway today when a piece of 2 by 4 flew from under the wheels of the semi and car in front of me, to hit my front left bumper. Once I took my exit and stopped at the sign, my left parking sensor activated with the red light (not green or yellow). After I finally got home, I looked at my bumper (see picture) and the little round cap has been pushed out of the bumper.

The parking sensor acted up on the same side on another stop sign, and when I pulled in my driveway. I wonder if replacing the cap would solve the issue, but I am not sure if it is connected to anything, or is stuck inside the bumper, or is even the source of the issue. Other than that cap, I am not sure how internal parts could have been damaged.

If I'm seeing that right then you are missing the parking sensor or it got pushed inside the bumper. The parking sensor is simply not in place.

You're right. When looking at previous posts, some say their sensors were replaced without having to remove the bumpers. I am thinking mine is pushed in and I am wondering if anybody knows how I can access to it.

Has anyone found a fix for this? I have the same problem and know that it's pushed inside the bumper. One mechanic tried telling me that I had to buy a whole bumper because the sensor falls "inside" the bumper where it cannot be reached.Im hoping that's not the case.

Imagine you could find the sensor and would not need to buy a whole new bumper. Have you jacked it up and removed the inner wheel liner and lower guard? You can look up inside some of the bumper.

Haha, yes. If you turn the wheels and remove 2-3 plastic pins you can pull the liner and get your hands inside to change fog lights or touch the inside of the bumper cover. The sensor is probably jammed in there and detecting the bumper cover itself which activates at low speeds. I think worse case scenario you have to replace a sensor and they cost a few dollars usually but the dealer may ask for more.

That's pretty much as simple as that. All you need is a Philips screw driver and some glue. In my case, the bracket fell off as well. It needs to me glued on back to the inside of the front bumper, and then you just have to place the sensor back in it. Dealer wanted $200+, body shop $40, but I'm going to try by myself.
