Thinking about a Genesis coming from an Audi S4

Hey Elderan, i live in NJ and went to NC (paramount hyundai in hickory) since they had a ton of 2016 ultimate models to choose from in rwd which i wanted. In NJ it was all AWD models.

i can comment on the car seats since i have a 1 and 2 year old, both are in huge convertibles car seats (britax blvd for reference) daughter is forward facing behind me and my son is rear facing behind passenger seat. there is plenty of room for the seats, i am 5'11 and have no issues with being comfy in either seat. i actually brought my car seats to the dealership (in NJ) to be sure of front seat comfort. my stroller and stroller seats plus more will fit in the trunk and my kids love the panoramic sunroof.

my wife drives a CRV so we have extra space when needed but its only helps when my wife wants to sit between the kids in the back, she fits in middle of the genesis too but not as comfy/safe.

i dont regret the purchase and it works as a family car but only if you have an SUV, which you do, handy as well.

Just checked them and they don't have any at all right now.

Like I said, if I can find a good deal I will go for it if not I guess I will wait until the G80 goes on lease special. I don't think it will take long once they are out.

I believe it, but wonder if it is overkill unless you are using it as a substitute for good snow tires. I'll admit that anti-lock brakes were a vast improvement over pumping the brakes, and assume individual-wheel stability control greatly reduces the amount of skill needed to stay out of ditches.

After owning many Audis I wont disagree, the traction of my S4 is amazing.

Hey Elderan -

If you feel that you're going to miss the handling/performance of the S4, would wait for a great lease deal on the Genesis (or G80) and bide my time until the G70 - which should be closer to the sporty feel of the S4 (but in a larger package), esp. in the sport trim or performance line.

Another option down the road would also be the upcoming Kia RWD sport sedan (production version of the GT concept).

I grew up in the rural Western NY snow belt (Lake Erie lake-effect snow) where 20" of snow per day was not uncommon (and 42" would stop even the Swiss-style rotary snow plow). We drove around in front-heavy RWD cars with bias ply tires and no stability or traction control, rarely getting stuck. Has something changed where AWD is now required?

By that logic, I assume you still drive around unbuckled, with kids unrestrained, stopping only when you need to call someone using a payphone?

Sure, some things worked 'back then'...but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take advantage of every innovation available to us now.

If AWD drive didn't increase the weight and complexity of the car, I'd be driving one now in FL. If I lived in snow country, I'd probably stick with RWD unless an AWD could get by with all-weather tires (pretty sure a RWD would require good snow tires to get going and to stop).

Just to clear up any misconception, even AWD cars need good snow tires in snowy regions, for traction as well as braking. All weather tires should only be used if there is a low chance of snow/ice throughout the winter.

Agreed. AWD is not a substitute for snow tires. And the combination is unbeatable.

AWD certainly doesn't "require" winter tires if you have a good set of all-seasons. Of course it does help if you do switch them out but the combination of AWD and a good set of all-seasons is fine. I don't switch mine out although I drive less than 10K miles/year and the majority of that in the summer. If I did drive more I would probably invest in a good set of winter tires.
