  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, there is a web site that shows the number of cars registered and on the road for any British purchased make and model.
https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/

For the G2, there are 26 cars on the road. Thus proving we British are poor or stupid or both. We must be a bit insane to buy all the French made rubbish. Anyways, question is, can you American guys find out how many G2's there are in the States. Just curious.

Nick

Probably need to go by sales for a particular calendar month, which are usually published and on the internet. Not sure if you can get the info broken out by Model Year, just by sales date. In the US, cars are registered at the state level, and I don't think they publish registration stats on that.

No French cars anywhere to be seen in these lists :-)
Peugeot, Citroën, and Renault left the US market years ago, so they have no dealers in the US.

However, Renault and Nissan have a strategic partnership and "Renault currently has a 43.4 percent (fully voting) stake in Nissan, and Nissan holds a 15 percent (non-voting) stake in Renault effectively giving Renault control."

US sales are reported as combined Genesis sedan and coupe by Hyundai (not sure why, makes no sense to me)
It "sort of" makes sense only when compared to how other automakers do it. For example, there is a Honda Accord Sedan, and Honda Accord Coupe, which are very similar cars and I assume are grouped together for sales stats.

However, the Genesis Sedan and Coupe have very little in common with each other, so on that basis the thing that doesn't make sense is why they even called the Coupe a Genesis in the first place.

Agree 100%. The current Hyundai Genesis Coupe won't be part of the Genesis brand, it will be discontinued after the 2016 model year. The coupe that Genesis will host as a brand will be a completely new vehicle, Genesis marketing says it's created from "a blank canvas" (https://www.genesismotorsusa.com/future.html.

I would guess that in 2017 the Genesis line will break away from Hyundai reporting
and go on it's own sales reports

They will probably do what Lexus does, report under the Toyota banner as a separate division below the Toyota figures.

With only a couple dozen cars in the UK the emissions certification laws must be quite different there. Here is the US the high certification costs for emissions, saftey, etc. make low volume sales prohibitively expensive as the cost can't be spread over many units.

Certification is EU wide, so you don't have to go through the process multiple times for each country. They also have severely limited choices with regards to engine (no V8), drive train, and options.

I doubt Hyundai is looking to make money with the G2 in Europe, they are investing into the future right now on those cars.

In Germany, there isn't any data available on Genesis sedan sales numbers, they are listed under "others" - I imagine the only people who actually have one are Hyundai employees.

Genesis G80 will definitely be different than Genesis Coupe, so doesn't really matter. I believe that Genesis Coupe will be discontinued or renamed.

But in the US, they only report sales by month, not by model year.

Thanks for the links. The car that was my second choice when I was shopping was the Lexus GS. Interesting that in Canada the Genesis Sedan outsells the much more established Lexus by better than 2:1. I did not know and would not have guessed.

Based on the few months when Hyundai USA did report Genesis sedan sales separately and on a cumulative sales report - the Genesis sedan should do around 30k in sales - which is double what the GS is on pace for the year (15k).

Last month in Korea, the newly renamed G80 did 3,200 in sales.

And in the previous month, the Korean market sold a total of 5,789 of the Genesis and EQ900 (aka G90).

And like for Canada, the Genesis easily outsells the GS (nevermind the Q70) in Australia.

Genesis - 47, GS - 15, Q70 - 1

(Last year, the Genesis sedan outsold the entire Infiniti lineup in Australia).

Getting the G80 Sport w/ the TTV6 should increase the disparity in sales w/ the Japanese competition.

Wouldn't worry about low UK and European sales at this juncture.

Very few individuals purchase sedans that large and the Genesis w/ the V6 as its only powertrain option currently is a poor choice for (corporate) fleet.

Will have to wait for when the Genesis gets a diesel engine and the PHEV version to really get an account of how things will go (doubt Hyundai will offer a T4 like much of the European competition), but even then, won't be a big seller (as sedans this size aren't big sellers for private buyers).

The smaller G70 will have a broader buyer base.
