  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is a long shot but thought I'd check with the hive...

So yesterday I was driving around, roughly 40mph in 'normal' mode. I gradually eased into the throttle while changing lanes to pass, the car took a minute to downshift so I gave it a little more juice and it finally kicked down.

I then lifted off as I had passed and was at a good speed, this is where things got weird. The car started to slow (car did not upshift after I lifted off the gas) and the revs held. This lasted for a couple seconds before the car violently upshifted. So violently that the tires chirped and there was a pretty loud 'thunk'.

Before and after this happened it's been driving 100% normally, in all modes and when using manual/paddle control or in full auto. No CELs or anything like that.

I can't get the dealership to reproduce things that are easily reproducible so I don't hold out any hope that I'll be able to show them what happened. So anyone else had this happen? Anything you'd recommend?

Had similar issue over a year ago. It was at the same time my car needed the tail light seal issue fixed on a recall. The dealer chalked it up to that because it was linked somehow to the wiring for the tranny. Ever since they did that recall I have not had the issue. I don't think the recall was the fix but it hasn't happened again since.

It's happened to me twice now. Both times I thought I was rear-ended by another car.

Interesting, glad I'm not alone! And glad I got the extended powertrain coverage haha.

Hopefully it's just an unrefined moment and not doing any damage to the tranny.

Definitely, it feels like being rear ended at low speed. Like in a parking lot or something.

Thanks for that, I still won't bother with dealership. I'll swing by the local O'Reilly and have them scan it to see if there's a code that's not throwing a CEL.

Well, I've been hazed by the Genny tranny 'thump'. Normal driving 30 - 40 mph. when we experienced violent tranny shift that felt like car got rear ended. Quite alarming. Is this an early tell tale sign?

Subscribed.

I had this happen to me once early on in my ownership but it has not happened again.

I still need to get over to O'Reilly and have them scan it. I doubt anything will pop but who knows!

1st gen 8 speed can be made to do this too. Never had this with the 6 speed in the '09. It's obviously a bug in the TCS module code.

To reproduce (not recommended):
Floor the gas and run the tach up past 5k (in 2nd or 3rd) ... lift off 1 second, then get on it full again.... and... BOOM!

Fantastic way to break your car.
