  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

If it matters to any of you considering whether to buy the existing stock of 2015 or 2016 Hyundai Genesis vehicles, please note that the models with 9.2" screens (often referred to as Ultimates) still do not have Apple CarPlay. Yet, this morning Genesis Motors announced its intent to partner with Amazon to bring connected cars to connected homes via Alexa. Following is a link to the announcement:

Remote engine start with climate control
Remote door lock/unlock

Genesis G90 owners receive a complimentary Amazon.com Gift Card, which can be applied toward an Amazon Echo*

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Aug. 18, 2016 – “Did I lock the car?” “How can I warm up my car on a snowy morning without going outside, get my news and still get to work on time?” These are questions that can leave many car owners feeling frazzled. But not G80 and G90 owners, as Genesis is the first automaker to launch an Alexa skill, allowing remote voice commands to control connected cars. Genesis Connected Services can take care of these tasks and more from inside the home using the Alexa voice service on Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Amazon Tap. The new Alexa skill for Genesis is available today across Alexa-enabled devices.

“We’re excited to bring the convenience of voice and Alexa to the Genesis G80 and G90,” said Steve Rabuchin, vice president, Amazon Alexa. “With this innovative Alexa implementation, customers can now start their car, and get the heat going all just by asking Alexa from the comfort of their own home. We can’t wait for our customers to try it out.”

Additionally, Genesis G90 owners will receive a complimentary Amazon.com Gift Card redeemable towards an Amazon Echo.
“The Amazon Alexa skill for Genesis demonstrates our progressive commitment to technology that is intuitive and customer-focused. It aligns with our belief that time and convenience are the ultimate luxuries,” said Erwin Raphael, general manager of Genesis in the U.S. market. “From remotely locking your car from your living room, to starting your G90 and setting the temperature from your bedroom, the Alexa skill for Genesis offers a new level of ease for owners.”

How It Works
Amazon Alexa allows customers to send remote commands to their car from inside their home using simple voice interaction through Genesis Connected Services and an Alexa-enabled device. To send commands to Genesis vehicles via Alexa, users must enable the Genesis skill in their Alexa app available on iOS, Android and Fire tablets, and then link their existing Genesis Connected Services Account within the Alexa app. Voice commands will only be sent to Genesis vehicles after Alexa prompts owners for their Genesis Connected Services Personal Identification Number (PIN).

Pretty cool. Good to know for the future in case I end up going with another G80 after my current lease is up in a couple of years.

I don't get it. Isn't all this already available in the "free" Genesis app?

It is. This is just another way to do it that's not costing you anything extra. You don't have to open any app or deal with that. If you have an Echo in your house simply just say out loud "tell Genesis to start my car" and it will do it.

Thank you for the heads up!

I hope the Amazon Echo can open/close your garage door? Nothing like remotely starting your car in a closed garage.

Very true - I wonder how many people spend this much money on a car then and keep it outside in the elements as depicted in the video?

money is all relative...while i love to baby my car my wife puts your highlander in there for easy access to the car with the baby so my car has to sit outside in the elements.

but on the other hand my dad doesnt like to baby his car as he believes its just a car and he bought it because its safe, has a lot of features, and rides like a dream plus it has a ton of room to be driven in...his MB maybach sits outside, unwashed and untinted and probably costs 5 times what most people bought this car for...by the way he does have a 3 car garage with a car port yet it sits right in the front of the house in direct sunlight...he wont move it no matter what i tell him.

im sure there are many people who put this car in garages while some people just dont care...but if i had a choice mine would be in a garage and wiped down every night if i could.

any way getting back to the topic...do we hyundai genesis owners get this too?

No. This is strictly an announcement for Genesis Motors G80 and G90 owners. Again, this is where they are making a distinction between the two types of Genesis, to which I took exception, but others considered "whining".

Good job Genesis, getting the jump on the competition and adding a neat feature. I'm not sure how much I would use Alexa to control my car but pretty cool overall. Hopefully there is some security, it would suck to have someone shut off my car from home while I'm on the road.

They conveniently left this part out of the demo video to make it a little cooler (but also a little misleading):

"Voice commands will only be sent to Genesis vehicles after Alexa prompts owners for their Genesis Connected Services Personal Identification Number (PIN)."

Guys this works with 2015 and 2016 models as well..

Weird that GenesisMotors would notify us, but not Hyundai! I have used the Genesis app for almost two years, but don't have the Alexa product. Think Hyundai really needs to step up their communication to existing owners (Gen 2 in particular as we have same software, but all as we share a name) as to how the integration of old and new Genesis will be effectuated. IMHO, poor customer service experience.

Gave it a go myself and the echo integration works fine on my 2015. It's not for everyone but I'm a sucker for this type of stuff. Would've never considered blue link without it.

Yes, pin must be provided by voice. It took my 9yo son all of 2 minutes to memorize my pin as I announced it to alexa. The good thing is that the remote stop feature only seems to work after a remote start but before physical entry to the vehicle.
