If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just agreed to purchase a 2012 R-Spec with ~40,000 miles. Assume the seller has taken care of it and it's in excellent condition.

Should I buy a service contract? I've never owned a car for more than 33 months, but my (poorly conceived and improbable) plan is to hang on to this and add an S2000 or Miata to my garage, and live happily ever after.

Through USAA I can get a 4 yr / 100,000 mile contract for just over $2000. It seems to be a legit warranty contract (does anybody have experience with USAA extended warranties?).

I'd like a Hyundai service contract, but I don't know if I can get that buying through a private seller. Anybody have an answer to that?

Any service contract providers you have had a good experience with?

For what it's worth, I don't care about a lot of the tech (smart cruise control, lane departure, parking sensors, etc.). I just want the horsepower/torque, refined interior, and that freakin' stereo. So long as it runs right and the stereo works, the dash can be lit up like a Christmas tree and it wouldn't bother me until I try to sell it.

If it matters, I'll be paying $22,000. I can stomach at least one ~$2,000 repair bill per year, maybe two or three, so long as my home's AC doesn't crap out on me the same week my dog breaks a leg or other financial disasters hit.

Thanks for any advice, opinions, or other words.

The early 2012 models have had higher than average problems with the V8 engine and transmission. You can find discussions about these in this forum. So I would definitely get an extended warranty if you have purchased a 2012 R-Spec.

The Hyundai extended warranty (not a service contract in that it does not cover routine maintenance) is available from any Hyundai dealer (and only Hyundai dealers). There are threads which discuss which dealers offer the best prices on these warranties via phone or email, etc. I believe that original 5 year - 60K mile warranty must be in force in order to get the Hyundai extended warranty.
