  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Interesting iPod info

The other thing that really chaps my hide is the lack of "shuffle" mode. Why is it available for all other formats (cd, dvd-a, mp3) and not for the iPod. It is clearly technically feasible ( iPod AAP ).

No integration at all would have been better. At least, I wouldn't have gotten my hopes up.

I agree that this is the biggest flaw in the otherwise superlative Genesis design. It's a decidedly low-tech cutting-corners weak link in what is otherwise the best audio system in the automotive market.

3. If you forget to disconnect or power off your iPod when exiting the vehicle it will not go to standby & drain down the iPod battery if left plugged in the console compartment.

Simon -- I was surprised to read this comment. While I've only had an iPod for a couple of months, I always leave it connected/on when I shut off the car, and the unit is always fully charged. Maybe it's only charging the iPod when the car is on, but I'm sure it's not draining it at all while the car is off. You have the Tech pkg, right? So do I...

This gimped shuffling business has me a bit bothered. Does anyone know if there is proper shuffling functionality using a thumb drive or portable USB HDD? If so I might just go that route instead of using the iPod. Do you still get the same information on the screen using the drives as the iPod (Artists, etc)?

Have you considered creating a Playlist for your iPod (the Genesis audio system will allow you to select an iPod playlist).

My Nano doesn't "battery drain" if left connected.

This was one of my first concerns. It powers down about 30 seconds after the car is turned off.

I've got a 30GB iPod, a 2GB flash drive, and a 16GB flash drive. I can confirm the playback shuffle with flash drives does not work well. It tends to play several songs then stop playing for long periods of time. What I did to alleviate the problem was to write a little script that renames the songs based on [Song Name] - [Artist], which effectively "randomizes" the order so they at least do not play back one artist at a time.

Also, the head unit does the decoding on a flash drive and it seems to have issues with a few of my ~400 of my songs with skipping near the end of the song.

I use smart playlists on my iPod where it'll add all my 4 and 5 star rated songs into one large playlists or seperate ones for certain artists. The problem is I wouldn't want to listen to these playlists in the song order that they are added.

Nabber, would you mind giving me more info on this script you made to rename them with song titles first then artist. Is it just a batch script? I was thinking of just getting a thumb drive, copying over my playlists then renaming the songs like that to effectively shuffle the songs. I'd appreciate any help.

Seems like an awful lot of BS to go through.

You can create a new smart playlist that contains all the songs in your 4 and 5 star rated playlist, in random order. That way, the iTunes computer does the "heavy lifting" and randomizes everything for you. It'll be in the same random order every time (until you go back to your computer and modify that second smart playlist to make it re-randomize again), but you can avoid that by creating 3, 4, or 5 random smart playlists based on your 4-and-5-star playlist. Then you can change from one to another to select a new random order.

It's more work than it should be, but so long as Hyundai refuses to jump into the 21st century and allow randomization of an iPod list, this is the best there is. (And yes, I know an iPod is really a 21st century device... I was simply being hyperbolic...)

Hey Guys I just recieved my Genesis on Friday and I was wondering about the Ipod shuffle business and started to play around and how to make the shuffle work with my radio and all u have to do is and its really easy...

When ur Ipod is playing just hold down the #2 CD button on ur radio until u hear a loud beep noise and thats it. The only thing is u gotta keep doing that everytime u start up ur car. Not a hassel at all. U don't have to make no special playlists, just push that button and BAM! instant shuffle.

I hope that helped.

I have a MacPro and used AppleScript to do this. I'd bet PC users have some freeware available for the same thing.
Nabber, I am a fellow Mac user. Would you share your script with me?

I no longer have my copy (and I believe I had specific directory/playlist names incorporated in mine) but here is something that may work. I haven't used it so read the directions closely. Sounds similar to mine though, and is probably written cleaner and safer. :) I have looked through many of the scripts on this site and they seem to be top notch.

Can anyone confirm that this works?

u know the buttons with the numbers on them that changes the CD's or too ur favorite radio stations? Those number buttons.

I have the Coupe so I don't know if the setup is different in the Sedan.

Considering there is no #2 CD button on a Genesis Sedan I doubt it does.

I thought he was refering to the number two in the menu section
