  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 Genesis, which I purchased in January 2016 . I've scheduled my 7500 mile maintenance . The dealership told me I do not have complementary oil/filter changes etc. , as I thought I was told . It's possible I am wrong, but I do believe when I purchased the car I was told Hyundai offered this as part of the purchase agreement. Can anyone help me clarify this ? I cannot find any paperwork that I was given at the time of purchase to verify this , but I'm almost 100% positive that's what I was told .

It is possible this was a specific dealer deal. When I was shopping for my Genesis almost all the dealers stated that they offered the first service at no charge. I am pretty sure this is a common practice, but not necessarily Hyundai sponsored.

Regards,

Ray

Like every other car buyer, you have a purchase contract. Check the agreed-upon contract terms there. Such services would be dealer, not Hyundai, provided. Some dealers offer such perks, others do not. For example, my dealer doubles the powertrain warranty period from 10/100,000 to 20/200,000. Of course, they figure the cost of that into their sales prices. Realistically, most people don't keep a car for more than 10/100,000, so this "incentive" probably costs them little in the long run. The bottom line is that if it isn't in your contract, it doesn't exist.

That's a dealer added perk that they sometimes throw in to drive purchase - not a Hyundai Corporate thing (unless you buy a new G80 where Genesis Motors is including 3 year scheduled maintenance on all cars).

I have no idea what you were told, but Hyundai Motor America does not offer that (although it is offered on the 2017 Genesis G80 and G90 models for 3 years, which is technically a separate brand starting in 2017).

Some dealers offer some free oil changes as part of a sales agreement.

When purchasing a car, all terms must be in writing, so you need to make sure that those kinds of things are in the sales contract.

Hyundai does not offer any complimentary maintenance services on the Genesis prior to the '17 G80. Many local dealers may offer your first oil change free, or even for several years afterwards, but it's on a dealer by dealer basis and would have had to been in writing in your original purchase paperwork for it to be valid at the same dealer you bought it from. Maybe you confused "complimentary service loaner" with free service?

I received a coupon book from the dealer we purchased the genny from. Has their name and address all over it. Looks like only they would honor it since they were the dealership that sold us the car. Another dealership would not honor it.

That would be correct. You didn't give that other dealer any of your money - so they have nothing to gain by giving you free service. Plans like this are almost always dealer-specific and yes - the price of it gets buried into your vehicle sale price.

Except for the new Genesis brand which offers free routine maintenance for the first 3 years or 36K miles.

Also, manufacturers like MB and BMW offer pre-paid fixed price service plans that are good at any dealer (BMW has free service for the first few years like Genesis Motors, but they also have pre-paid service plans after the free service runs out).

Understood... I wasn't referring to the "new" genesis brand. :)

I think it is dealer specific. I have purchased (3) cars now from Wallace Hyundai here in Stuart Florida. First oil change is free no matter if you buy a new or used car from Wallace.

Salespeople come and go at car dealers. The last guy I met showed me the new G80. When I left, he thanked me profusely for educating him about the car and its predecessors. He meant it.

On my 1G Genesis, I received a coupon book for $9 oil changes for the first 8 years. Good only at my dealer.

Braman Hyundai in Miami offers first oil change free then almost every dealer around here offer discounts like $10 off or 20% off for an oil change.

I wonder if they use recycled oil?
