  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm Longtime lurker who nearly pulled the trigger about 6 months ago on new 16 Genesis and I'm now looking at the G80 (or a greal deal on a MY 16)...Recently I was out car shopping for the wife and I test drove an A7 and an A6 and I was very impressed w/both especially with the A7.Haven't seen or read many comparisons on the forum on a G2/G80 vs the A6 or A7.

Is anyone else considering either Audi car? Or test driven them ad have opinions/comparisons? The overall refinement and sporty handling of the A7 was noteworthy, ...definitely making me reconsider my obsession w/the G2/G80...

I haven't driven and A7 so I can't do a comparison but do you realize you can get a 2016 Genesis Sedan for less than HALF what you'd pay for an A7? I don't know what the refinement is like - nor the handling - but if it's worth double to you - then you can't go wrong buying it. Both the A6 and A7 are really nice luxury sedans...

But what is it that you want? If you want a comfortable ride that has nearly every feature out there for a really great price then you would obviously want to stick with the g2...but if you want the sportiness and slightly more prestige and don't mind paying $20k-30k more for a similarly equipped car then go for the Audi.

I think we all bought the g2 here because of how good the car is compared to the price...not really because it's actually better than the other luxury .....although I recently went to lexus to check out some cars and the es is definitely not as nice as the g2 (imo).

But the ls is better than the g2 but I will just guess that the g90 is going to be better than the ls...however the other 3 luxury brands equally equipped I think are overall better cars but for a lot more money.

This goes way back - but when Audi's were first introduced into this country - perhaps back in the '70's (I'm not sure), they had absolutely horrendous front end problems - maybe it was struts, shocks, A-frames, or something else like that. I'm not sure.

In any case, they were noted for highway breakdowns, expensive tow jobs, and enormously expensive repair jobs.

Anybody remember?

Sure, I remember. I also remember the first generation Excel here in the States. Horrible cars. What does that have to do with the comparison between the G2 and A6/7? Most manufacturers had bad cars in their pasts. As Hyundai is doing, Audi persevered and is now a premier brand. The unintended acceleration almost destroyed them though.

You'd have to get a 2014 or 13 Audi A7 with about 30K+ miles on it for it to be around the same price as a 2016 Genesis.

I've been stuck with the same quarrel for the past month man. Still have not decided, just saving money for now lol.

I test drove an A6 when I was looking before I bought the G80. It was a very nice car, but the interior felt smaller all around that the G80 and it was obvious that it was an older design which had been updated with modern features over time. Some things seemed tacked-on, like the screen that rose out of the dash and the big bubble on the dash that held the HUD should you want that feature.

That all might have been acceptable but something equivalent to the Ultimate G80 was more expensive by a lot. Also, instead of just a few option packages the A6 had many small options to choose. It is nice to have all those choices but if you want something specific you'll probably have to order it and wait. With the G80 you have a better chance of the dealer finding the exact car you want somewhere.

My only comment here is that the A7 lacks rear headroom due to the roof slope. I'm pretty tall so it may just be me but I definitely didn't fit in the rear.

If money is no object, go for the R8 - now that is a screaming machine. I was looking at one in Austin that a judge had forced the dealership to take back. Nothing wrong with the car, just the driver couldn't keep the speed down below the low 100s. On his 3rd speeding ticket the only way to stay out of jail was to return the car. Good price too, but about triple a loaded G80. I think they came down to $140,000 for a drive away price.

Regards,

Ray

Test drove an A6 but could not find one on the lot with the safety features that I wanted. Test drove a Genesis and bought one the same day. In the process got the latest safety features that are standard on the 2017 G80 and save over $10,000.

Now that I have driven a new G80 for a few days it is clear that the suspension is not as refined as many other cars. Even with the correct tire pressure you can feel irregularities in the road. Has anyone had similar experience?

I personally own a '14 A6. Fully loaded, top level trim. Maybe this is a case of "the grass is always greener", but based on my limited experience with the Genesis, I personally think the Genesis is a better car. I think they drive more nicely despite the bigger size, they ride more comfortably, and I don't care for the multitude of rattles and vibrations in my interior. Even though I'll miss the AWD and the surround parking cameras, I intend on replacing my Audi with a Genesis once I can find a good enough deal.

What other vehicles are you comparing the G80's suspension to?

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Yes, the Genesis has a more 'luxurious ride' than the Audi A6. Each car has it's plusses and minuses but the Genesis Sedan is a heck of a car - especially when you factor in price...

The Genesis is available with AWD.

I recently purchased a G80 over a much more expensive A6. After about two weeks with the car, I agree with one of the previous posters that the ride is not quite as good as the A6. Part of this is because I got a G80 Ultimate and it has the bigger rims/smaller tires. Another part of this is that the A6 has an air suspension. Even with the A6 sport suspension, the air ride is better at smoothing the smaller bumps.

I will also note, unfortunately, that the A6 is probably more nimble. Or at least I am still gaining confidence in the G80. I previously had a S4, so what do you expect. I mention this because on my first trip down the interstate, an RV one car up from me had a blowout and I was unable to avoid the tire. In my S4, I have no doubt that I would have been able to dodge the tire, but I took it directly on the passenger side of the front clip. So I am bringing my brand new G80 (up to 800 on the odo after that road trip) to the dealer tomorrow to make sure there is no other damage. I hear a slight higher-pitched (belt?) noise that increases with RPM (not the engine) that I didn't have before so I want t get it checked out.

ANYWAY, I do think the G80 is fabulous and a "smart buy" but a fully loaded A6 drives better if you don't care about the extra $15000+ to get loaded 3.0T version.

Audi's are pretty nice but i hate the seats. feels like sitting on a wooden bench. and they are way more expensive for less standard vs standard

In my opinion the A6 seats are better because they are longer and offer more thigh support. I also find that the Genesis driver seat does not tilt down enough in the front. Otherwise the Genesis is an excellent buy and a good value for the money

No comparison, A6 is better for sure. The Genesis' are great cars with tremendous value, but we're getting a little delusional here.

I am curious - better in what way, in your opinion? It certainly isn't in reliability....
