  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G80 vs. Audi A6 & A7

My current ride is a 2014 A6 with the supercharged V6 and 8 speed. The A6 is very nimble, handles like it is on rails, has immaculate fit and finsh and is really quick. There is no waiting for the turbos to spool up. Everything happens right now. I have 25K on the odo and have yet to have any problem. So far, the Audi has been bullet proof. Having said all of the above, I would never own an Audi without the factory bumper to bumper warranty. Repairs are simply horrendous, unless you have a good independent shop. All in all, they are great cars, but you really do pay for the ride.

From my experience the cost of servicing a car is proportional to the price that you pay and the perceived exclusivity of the car. My BMW dealer charges 0ver $200 for an oil change to a 535i. The Maserati dealer charges my neighbor over $400 for an oil change. Honda and Toyota dealers charge about $25.

The Genesis is available with AWD.

Not with the V8. And the V6, while it's enough to move the car, it still feels a bit under powered for something that heavy.

I will also note, unfortunately, that the A6 is probably more nimble.

Interesting that you mention this. I've got a 3.0T with the sport suspension setup, 20" wheels. I'm left feeling like it drives a bit like a Toyota Camry. I'm left wondering how much of it is a matter of the tires. Whoever had it before me put some Nitto Motivo's on to replace whatever the OEM tires were.

I recently purchased a G80 over a much more expensive A6. After about two weeks with the car, I agree with one of the previous posters that the ride is not quite as good as the A6. Part of this is because I got a G80 Ultimate and it has the bigger rims/smaller tires. Another part of this is that the A6 has an air suspension. Even with the A6 sport suspension, the air ride is better at smoothing the smaller bumps.

I will also note, unfortunately, that the A6 is probably more nimble. Or at least I am still gaining confidence in the G80. I previously had a S4, so what do you expect. I mention this because on my first trip down the interstate, an RV one car up from me had a blowout and I was unable to avoid the tire. In my S4, I have no doubt that I would have been able to dodge the tire, but I took it directly on the passenger side of the front clip. So I am bringing my brand new G80 (up to 800 on the odo after that road trip) to the dealer tomorrow to make sure there is no other damage. I hear a slight higher-pitched (belt?) noise that increases with RPM (not the engine) that I didn't have before so I want t get it checked out.

ANYWAY, I do think the G80 is fabulous and a "smart buy" but a fully loaded A6 drives better if you don't care about the extra $15000+ to get loaded 3.0T version.

If you live in the U.S. The A6 (or A7) does not have an air suspension. That is only available on the S6/7. I'm on my second A7. Not ready to make any more comments because I have not driven the current generation Genesis yet but would be glad to answer any questions on the Audis.

I bought a used 2015 3.8 HTRAC ultimate package with 18K miles three months ago. Previous cars: Lexus GS 300, Infinity Q45, BMW 525, 528, and 325 convertible. Many miles in a Lexus LS. I think the ride and quietness rivals the LS, handling and quality the GS and Infinity. Nothing handles Like a beemer, but at age 60 now, who needs it at the price they want to charge. Before buying my used Genesis, I test drove Mercedes E350s and Audi 6 and 7s. I thought the Genesis more comfortable, quieter and solid. The audis won on handling, but again, how often do I get in the twisty back roads with no traffic to really enjoy the handling.

Dollar for dollar, I realized Genesis was by far the best value. I hope it turns out to be reliable.

Thank you for the input, Gordon! Hyundai has made amazing progress to have cars discussed in the same sentences with Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus and Infiniti. I have a 2015 Genesis Sedan myself - and love the car. About a year so far and no problems...
