  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2015 Genesis sedan 5.0 came with no cargo net. There are 4 chrome latches in the trunk. One on left wheel well, one on right wheel well, and 2 on back edge trunk lid closure , just left and right of trunk latch. What are these for? Do they work with a net? My dealer said that there was no net available for this year / model car. Is that correct? How do you keep stuff from sliding around?

I opened the glove box and thought it was a Genesis branded umbrella in there. It was actually the cargo net in a sleeve.

Yes that is what the latches are for. I have the net. It's useless by it hovering a couple inches above the deck. Anything you put under it slides out under braking or accel. You are welcome to have my net if you want. I did notice when I test drove the G90 yesterday that they did the same thing there. Oh well.

I put a non-slip carpet pad under my net. You can get one at Home Depot pretty cheap.

My net lays flat on the trunk floor, but I also have the optional trunk mat in the back. I have to admit the net is actually way more useful than I expected. I tend to put my yoga mat and bike shoes under it and they are held just great. The pull down bag hook is very useful for holding my grocery sacks...

My cargo net works just fine for a few cases of beer and some ice :D

Mine like the rest posted above sits right on the ground...I thought it was useless too until I went to the shooting range and the net kept all my guns from sliding around.

Meh... I have the reversible mat too... and even sticky side up things slide out - including the rifle case. :( I guess there just isn't enough elasticity in mine. I would have also preferred to see it vertical... but I digress.

Instead I opted for a couple of collapsible crates and some VW velcro L-braces. Work like a charm every time :)

You most drive like your in a need for speed movie lol. At least you got it figured out with the crates, good thinking.

Your dealer is a pathological liar.

How do you know? Do you know him personally?

Or maybe he was just missed informed on the product.

Mine came with one as well in the bag in the trunk. Have only used it a couple of times and it works OK. I liked the one in my '12 better though.

lol... not quite - I do only have the v6 awd and most of my time is on the highway.

the L brackets are probably the best thing since sliced bread - as it doesn't limit me to size like the crates do, and can be stuck anywhere on the carpeted side of the mat to hold things against the front, back or sides of the trunk. I think that is the coolest thing VW has done by throwing them in - so when it came to my cars I ordered a few sets of them from Azon...

The only way one can honestly say that the net is not sold separately, is to look in the parts catalog. If that person had done that, it would have been obvious that the net is available.

There are not many OEM parts that cannot be purchased at the parts counter, although some times one has to purchase a complete assembly and not just one part.

The cargo net is standard equipment on all 2015 sedans - just look on the Monroney sticker that came on the window of the car.

I had to hound the dealer that I bought the car from (which is 300 miles away) for several weeks until they sent me one, and then they sent me a vertical cargo net from an Elantra or something. Several more weeks before they forked it over.

So because he may not have taken the time to look in the catalog to see if it was available, that makes him a pathological liar?

WOW!

Maybe not quite... but it does make him someone who does not know the product which he sells... and that in turn becomes misrepresentation. In turn - that can also be considered lying - and the pathology aspect can come from it being on him to not put forth the effort to know his products forwards and backwards so he can properly take care of his customers.

I understand Mark's frustration from that aspect... representatives who are there only to collect a check... and not to engage in the work with passion and working in the best interest of the customer.

It is theoretically possible that this was the only time that dealership person has lied. I doubt it.

The vast majority of people at a dealership are there to make money for themselves, and unfortunately, they believe that means they have to lie to customers. I don't think that anyone would be surprised if someone claimed that new and used car dealers lie a lot. Unfortunately, it's part of the job.

I assume that they have determined it makes them more money than telling the truth. I suspect that lying may be more prevalent at dealerships that sell to customers on the lower end of price range, since customers at those dealers are less sophisticated, buy cars less often, and more easily fooled.

Talk about a holyier than thou attitude.

WOW!

So to you, all car sales men are pathological liars, anyone who doesn't make as much money as you or buys cars at the lower end of the price range are "less sophisticated, buy cars less often, and more easily fooled".

That's a pretty high horse you sit upon there. I hope you don't fall off of it as that would be devastating.

Hooks. Didn't know it had hooks in the trunk to hang your grocery bags. Learn something new every day about this amazing car.
