  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone tried a Duracell Battery......

The one in your link looks like it has ports that can be opened to add water. I am not sure about whether that is good or bad, but the OEM battery was sealed (even though it was a flooded cell and not an AGM battery in 2009). I am not sure if that one is as good as the "Gold" batteries from other companies, based strictly on the price, since Batteries Plus typically has fairly high prices.

Walmart, Autozone, and Advance Auto Parts all have good flooded-cell batteries and I am pretty sure the H8/49 ones at those stores are all made by Johnson Controls (who also makes Interstate). The only difference is that the design of plastic top is a little different to make it them look different (even if they are the same). The Walmart Gold one has a lower MSRP, but the auto parts stores often have sales or coupons that make them about the same price as Walmart. They also sell AGM batteries for about $25 more.

You will need to get one that has a vent. Read my post on that:

Here is a good video to show how to change the battery, but read my post on things I did differently than described in the video:

Give me a battery where one can add water over an AGM any day. 11 years and counting on an OEM battery in our Toyota 4Runner. Another reason for it's longevity may be the periodic use of a de-sulphating (pulse) charger. Yes, I know, it's days are numbered. :) Sure is great the Genesis battery is in the trunk. Heat is a battery killer. In the desert southwest, engine compartment batteries are lucky to last three year.

My 2009 Genesis OEM battery was a flooded cell (not AGM), but it was maintenance free and water could not be added. They somehow glue the top on the battery after they add water and acid at the factory (or final assembly point). I just recently replaced my original 2009 battery, even though it was probably fine. So I am not so sure that batteries that allow water to be added are better than maintenance free (assuming both are lead acid flooded cell and not AGM).

It is true that AGM batteries are also maintenance free (no water can be added), but that is different than a flooded cell battery that is maintenance free. From what I was able to find out (although there appears to be a some disagreement about this), AGM batteries do not recover well from a total discharge such as when leaving the trunk open or something that completely drains the battery. That's why I decided to get another lead acid flooded cell battery instead of AGM.
