  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey I have a 2009 hyundai genesis 3.8. I have been having some issues starting it up, I got the battery checked ana it showed that it was weak and needed to either be charged or replaced. I chose to replace the battery. I have a new battery in and I am still having the same issues.

What can be the cause of this?

Make sure the negative battery cable where it attaches to the trunk floor is clean and tight. Did you have alternator checked? Did you replace battery with an AGM battery? If not, a cheap replacement non-AGM may get drained too much by car's electronics when the car is off. I went cheap with a non-AGM on my Denali and had to get an AGM a few months later.

I am not sure that the problem is a non-AGM battery, but it may depend on whether the car has the Tech Package, and also how good the battery is. My non-Tech Package 2009 Genesis did not come with an AGM battery, and it lasted more than 7 years, and was actually working fine when I recently replaced it. My new non-AGM battery has more CCA than the AGM version from same company, and it has a longer warranty than the AGM. But my non-AGM battery was the best one of its kind I could find (there were some cheaper).

But maybe it depends on how long after purchasing the new battery the problem continued. If immediately after replacing the battery, the starting problems continued, then it is probably not the battery.

One problem I have recently noticed on my 2009, is that the trunk can look closed (seams are perfectly flush) but it is not closed, causing battery drain. The dash indicator light does show the trunk is open in that case.

There have also been problems with the rubber bumper inside the hood that falls off and causes battery drain because the rubber bumper shuts off certain functions in the car when the hood is closed.

It would help if more info is provided.

  1. Did you purchase the car new or used? If used, when was it purchased (how long after you purchased it did the problem begin)?
  2. What is the average temperature at night where you park your car?
  3. What is the Trim Level of your Genesis (Base, Premium, Tech Package)?
  4. What is the exact brand and model of the battery you purchased? Who installed it?
  5. After you purchased a new battery, did the problem immediately continue, or did it work OK and then have a problem after a few days or weeks?

What are the "issues" starting it up.
Slow cranking?.....No cranking??......Long "normal" speed cranking before the engine "fires" up???
