I must be missing something. I do not see any references to private messaging under any settings. The only messaging settings I have are these and appear to be set to allow messaging:

Click on the photos below, it's a screen shot of my settings and where it is located:
1) Click on General Settings

2) In the Private Messaging section Click Private Messaging: ON and Receive Private Messaging: From all members

I emailed the owner of this site. He replied that PM is turned off for new users until we have posted enough messages to prove we aren't spambots.
Can't really argue with that.

Am I missing something here? It's not like someone has to break in to the national archives in DC to get this manual. It's not that secretive is it? Can't someone just post the link to it or do I just have to post a bunch of meaningless messages just to get PM rights. Not making any sense to me......

There's no link. We supply it from our own computer and it's a very large file. If you want it so bad, either buy it yourself on ebay or post your email and I can send it to you. The reason your PM is dabled is because the spam folks will sign up and flood all of us with junk. By making members post for awhile guarantees that the member is real and not a fake.

I'm just an ordinary member here but have been a moderator on other forums and the way I see things like service manual access is as a benefit to the members that participate in the forum. All forums strive to have active members to help the community and all involved to see and hear what others have seen and done to their vehicles as well as dealing with common abnormalities that every vehicle has. The manuals are usually a great help for those that need to troubleshoot and adjust or repair any problems that they may be having along with the forum to discuss same with other members.
I have these files on my google drive and they are way too large to email (1GB each) and have sent them to all that have asked and have the ability to receive a PM.
Anyone who is not willing to post enough to achieve PM status (not sure how many you need) is certainly free to get online as the download can be purchased for about $17.
That being said, anyone with a 2016 model really has not much use for these manuals as their car is still under warranty and it should be fully covered by the dealer/factory.
