  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I currently drive a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Ultimate RWD, the car is less than a year old and only has about 8,000 mi on it.

Next week will be my 2nd time I have to replace the head unit. The first time the GPS wouldn't read the SD card; after they installed the new head unit the first time, I noticed that the dash wasn't flush with the buttons, I had to make the dealership go back and fix it to re-align, this along with other issues that I had to have them fix (i.e. backup camera had multiple lines, top down view wasn't working). However after they replaced the new head unit a new issue occurred where the radio would no longer stay on for ~5 mins after turning the engine off. Before the head unit was replaced, the head unit would stay on for about 5 minutes or until the door was opened, after they replaced the head unit, the radio will shut off immediately with the car. I brought the car back to the dealership about 2 months ago and Hyundai tech line advised them that they needed to replace the fuse box to fix the issue, the dealership said they would source one from a used 2015 genesis and replace mine to continue their diagnosis. About a month went by and every time I checked in with the dealership they said they were still trying to source a fuse box, finally I expressed my dissatisfaction that after a month they still couldn't find a fuse box, after that the service manager miraculously was able to order a new one from Hyundai. Once the fuse box came in they replaced it in my car and low and behold it didn't fix the issue. They kept my car for 4 business days and went through various troubleshooting steps that they say Hyundai tech line advised them to do in order to troubleshoot the issue, they did everything from checking the wires to the head unit and checking ground and power to the DIS and other electrical systems (I told them this was pointless since the DIS and other electrical systems were working fine before the head unit was replaced), after 4 days of them testing the various electrical components and concluding that everything was fine they finally decided to order another head unit (I guess by process of elimination?).

However when they returned my car, I noticed that the center stack area now has a significant gap between it and the soft plastic dash near the glove box and isn't perfectly flush as it was before. Additionally, now the climate control doesn't work (I can change the fan speed and temperature, but it won't display on my screen what temperature I'm setting it at and the climate button does nothing now). On top of all this, while they were taking out my head unit they also nicked a portion of the soft plastic dashboard that now has a small but very noticeable scratch/nick. The dealership assured me they would fix it all when I go back to replace the head unit for a second time.

Sorry for the long post, but I was interested in hearing about other people's experience in getting their head unit replaced, i have the 9.2 inch touchscreen which from what I've read on the forums, this unit in particular tends to fail often. This sucks because I brought the car to the dealership to fix my radio problem and now I'm left waiting for the replacement head unit to come in, there's no guarantee it'll fix the problem, and on top of all that I'm currently with a car that is in worse shape now than when I first brought it to the dealership to fix the issue (i.e. in addition to the radio issue, now my dashboard is scratched, the center stack isn't flush with the dashboard and my climate control no longer works).

I had my 8" unit replaced last year. I was very concerned, but in my case, there was no damage, and no issues. (except for dual lines on my backup cam.. that was a programming issue, and it was fixed)

Prior to replacement, I spoke with the tech. He told me it's actually pretty easy to swap these.

From your post, it sounds like a pretty mangled job in your case.

I had my head unit replaced. The only issue is the backup camera lines which was fixed with the help of tech support.

Thanks for the responses. You guys were lucky! Hopefully my next service visit resolves my issues...

In fact.. kudos to lobsenza for helping me with the Canadian TSB that was able to trigger the Tech Support folks to dig for the proper programming instructions. :encouragement:

I got the TSB from another member. It helped my dealer figure out how to fix the issue.

Unfortunately, the original problem of Sirius resetting to the preview channel still exists.

Can you provide this TSB, please? I am experiencing the same issue and would like to expedite the process!

The Sirius XM stock report, weather, movies, etc. stopped working, so dealer ordered a new head unit for my '15 Ultimate.

The only issue I had was that it took 6 months for the new one to arrive. I think they were hoping that I'd forget or just give up.

Once it was replaced I had no problems; the service manager even knew how to fix the double back-up lines

I just saw this. Here is the TSB for Canada. Your's will be a bit different, but once your dealer has this, they can get the exact version for your car.
